On July 15, 2025, Shirley M. Smith (nee Butera), passed away peacefully at Stella Maris in Timonium, Maryland. She was the wife of the late Eugene T. Smith, mother of Linda Smith, Kathleen Neil (Robert), Bernadette Smith and Caroline Holden (Steve); beloved grandmother ("Re Re") to Matthew Neil, Emily Neil, Timothy Neil and Alex Holden, and great-grandmother to Benjamin Neil and Samuel Neil.
She is predeceased by her siblings Jean Castranda, George Butera and Lawrence Butera.
Shirley was an avid gardener and known as an excellent cook and baker. Her family looked forward to her tins of Christmas cookies every year. She loved old movies and enjoyed watching TCM, particularly the films of Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck and Fred Astaire.
