Graveside services for Sandra Hawthorne Richardson will be held at Heard Cemetery in Manifest, LA on Friday, December 27 at 1PM with Bro. Todd Whittington officiating, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.
Sandy was born on August 20, 1944 in Jena, LA and passed away on December 24, 2024 at her home. She was a lifetime member of Jonesville First Baptist Church and married the love of her life, Stanford, there in 1965. Sandy was a talented seamstress; she sewed most of her clothing and created everything from beautiful draperies and matching accessories to costumes and formal dresses. She was a graduate of Louisiana College and taught English I & II for over 30 years at Block High School in Jonesville. She loved her students and was passionate about them learning proper grammar and punctuation; the word "ain't" was not allowed when in her presence. If you were in her class, you probably memorized and recited Antony's Oration from William Shakespeare's play, Julius Caesar, to fellow classmates. The phrase, "Friends, Romans, countryman - lend me your ear," is still familiar to hundreds of Block High School alumni.
Sandy had a special love for her children and family. In addition to her sewing skills, she was also known for her cooking and baking skills. Sandy's life was marked by service, creativity, and an unwavering loyalty to those around her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and former students.
She is reunited with her husband, Stanford "Buddy" Richardson, Jr.; son, Stan Richardson; parents, Ronald and Golden Hawthorne; and sister, Connie Hawthorne Smith.
Those left behind to cherish Sandy's memories are her daughter, Tiffany Richardson Craig & her husband, Reginald; granddaughters, Ashlyn Richardson and Jessie Richardson; nieces, Patricia Smith and Andrea Hearn; loving caregiver, Janis Stevenson (along with her sisters, Irma Stevenson and Maxine Lancaster), and a host of other family and friends.
The family would like to thank friends and members of Jonesville First Baptist Church for the visits, food, and prayers during the illnesses of both Sandy and Stanford during the last two years.
Memorials in her honor can be made to Jonesville First Baptist Church.
