Sandra Lee Howard made her grand entrance into this world on January 12, 1945 to her loving
parents Charlie Mac Howard and Mattie Lee (Johnson) Howard, whom proceeded in death.
Sandra was born and raised in the Hill district of Pittsburgh where she at a young age,
developed and cultivated a love for the performing arts, travel, and dance. She attended
Pittsburgh Public Schools for her formal education and graduated from Schenley High School
class of '63.
Sandra gave her life to the Lord at a young age. As a dedicated member of Macedonia Baptist
Church she was active in the youth choir, usher board and plays. Sandra was known for her
voice as worshiped the Lord at several churches in the Pittsburgh Area. In her adult years, she
was a dedicated member of EastHills Christian Church as choir leader and presently Rodman
Street Missionary Baptist Church. Sandra treasured her relationship with the Lord.
Sandra's beautiful spirit and distinct features gave her the opportunity to model for different
agencies including John Robert Powers Agency, Print Catalogues, JcPenney and JET
Magazine-She was Beauty of the Week. During this time she also studied Ballet, Modern, and
African dancing. She absolutely loved to dance and it showed in her movement on and off the
runway.
Sandra enjoyed the many facets that life had to offer. In 1970 Her adventurous spirit led her to
move to Washington, DC and travel around the world. With her education from Carnegie Mellon
University and a B.A Degree in English Education from the University of District of Columbia,
she taught English as a Second language in many countries, including France, Japan and
Germany for several years.
Sandra had many enduring qualities, and lived a full life. After the passing of her father Charlie
Mac Howard in 1976, Sandra moved back to Pittsburgh to help mother Mattie Howard in their
family home on Idlewild St. She later enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in 1981 and
served honorably as E6 Staff Sergeant until she retired in March of 2005. During this time She
made a successful career as a Secretary and Benefit Analyst at Cigna Group Insurance until
retiring from her 20 year profession in 2013. Even after retirement she couldn't sit still, the past 5
years she worked as a Hostess at Eat'NPark, which she enjoyed and gained lasting friendships.
In 1987 a new beautiful chapter of her life began, with the birth of her first baby girl Danielle
Rochelle. 1996 Her love runneth over when she brought home her second bundle of joy, Mecia
Lee. Sandra had a big heart and never forgot her roots in Pittsburgh. She honored her family by
keeping the family house and building love and adventure around it with her two beautiful and
talented daughters. Sandra lived her best life and with having her children, it now felt complete.
She loved hard and was happy sharing her life with family, friends and her children's friends.
She was known as the "Black Soccer Mom" and the "Moms-Mom of the Block" she loved every
minute of it. She shared her love for dance, song, and all art forms with her children. Her
presence was infectious, special, and one of a kind. Sandra never had a dull moment and she
loved to laugh. She will be missed for her love for life, humor and wit.
