Ronald Jay Adams died on July 23, 2024 due to a traumatic brain injury suffered from a fall. Ron is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer (Reiter), children Emily (Nora) Adams, Byron Adams (Frances Cooper), and Kimberly Keller (Nathan). He is also Papa to four grandchildren; Cecilia and Penny Keller, and Leo and Lola Adams. In his life, he loved them all.
Ron was born on February 17, 1956 in Beech Grove, Indiana. He was the middle of five children (Linda Reiter, Patti Takacs, Terri Gomez, and Rick Adams) born to Julius Otis Adams and Emily Mary Adams. He was coming of age at a time when conformity was for squares and the focus was on thinking for yourself. He developed a unique personality and was unapologetically genuine with everyone he met. This came off as abrasive at times, but for the people who loved him, was an attribute that allowed for brutal honesty and mutual playful (or not) digs at each other.
Ron was a fixer. He was the kisser of boo-boos and a master with Bondo on teenagers' cars. He and his silver hammer personally worked on the homes of every person he loved, and many more that he didn't. He was a talented craftsman and a perfectionist to the point of madness. When you found yourself in times of trouble, he was your first call. Need a ride home from California? Baby, you can drive his car. FBI coming to interview you? He's at the table waiting for them to arrive. Driving a new car after a brain injury? He's in the passenger seat. Ride or die, nothing's gonna change his world. It gave him a sense of purpose to send all his loving from him to you.
But, Ron was not one to accept a little help from his friends. He wanted to maintain his tough and intimidating demeanor for as long as possible. No hearing aids, no walkers, none of that old people stuff. He did take his sunken eyes and learn to see himself differently as his health declined and his hair whitened. He embraced the spirit of Santa Claus and was an enthusiastic representative of the spirit of Christmas. He carried around candy canes and bells for children that would comment on his resemblance when out and about. There was something in the way he moved that allowed him to give strange children candy without it being creepy. This is the paradox of Ron. He is the eggman and the walrus. He is kind and rude. He is tough and he is sensitive. He is gone but always here, there and everywhere.
We will come together to celebrate Ron on August 17 at St. Barnabas Church beginning at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider instead a donation to The Helping Our Own People Foundation at .
Arrangements are in the care of Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care.
