Caribou - Richard James Ackerman, 92, went home to be with Jesus, August 2, 2024 at Cary Medical Center ICU. He was born, July 9, 1932, in Presque Isle, Maine, the son of the late Albert and Jennie (Delong) Ackerman.
Richard graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1951 as Valedictorian. He served with the United States Army. He married his sweetheart, Clarissa McPherson on September 18, 1954. He was employed at Maine Bag Company as Office Manager, then transferred to Maine Potato Growers as an accountant until he retired on February 2, 1995. In May of 2003, he chose to work at DFAS (Defense Finance and Accounting Service) until the end of March 2010. Richard always went about whistling as he was driving or walking around the house. Richard attended Caribou Bethel Pentecostal Church. Richard and his wife, Clarissa, were short 47 days from celebrating their 70th anniversary.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Clarissa, of Caribou are their children, Carlin Ackerman and his wife Debra of Caribou, Vickie McGill and her husband Anthony of Caribou, Dennis Ackerman of Caribou, one sister, Mary Bell of Las Vegas, NV, a brother, Marvel Ackerman and his wife Janet of Fredericton, NB, five (5) grandchildren; Tammy Rickards, Denise Gloger, Ricky Ackerman, Michael Ackerman, and Brianna Rand, eight (8) great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Ayotte, and one great grandson.
Memorial service will be held at Caribou Bethel Pentecostal Church with Pastor Roger Jewell of officiating on August 17th at 1:00 pm. Arrangements in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Church Street, Presque Isle, Maine 04769.
