Paul Lee Smith, age 55, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, March 15, 2025, in his hometown of Huntsville, Texas.
Paul was a proud veteran who served as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1989-1992. His military service shaped much of who he was, and he took great pride in being a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Life Member. After his time in the Army, Paul discovered his love for "Bearkat Orange" as he earned a degree in Business from Sam Houston State University. His bond with his school was strong and it was evident that he cherished his time as a Bearkat. He was also a member of the Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church of Huntsville.
Paul was one-of-a-kind and lived a life full of character, authenticity, and unique experiences. A man of many stories, Paul had a wit and sense of humor that left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He stood firm in his beliefs and values and always made room in his heart for those he cared about.
Paul is survived by his daughters, Isabel and Julia Smith; his parents, June and Joe Smith; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Sunshine Smith; nieces Ashley and Emma Smith; and his nephew, Ryan Smith.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jean Lee Wilkinson and James Earl Wilkinson; and his paternal grandparents, Ollie Faye Smith and John Ramsey Smith.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, TX from 5:00-8:00 PM. Services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Huntsville, TX at 10:30 AM, followed by a reception. After the reception, Paul will be laid to rest at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, TX at 1:45 PM.
Paul will be deeply missed but his memory will live on in the stories he shared, the laughter he brought, and the impact he had on those around him.
