Michael F. Quinn, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2022, at the age of 77.
Mickey, to all who knew him, was born on October 14, 1944, to the late Francis ("F") and Barbara Flynn Quinn. Mickey went to grade school at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Noblesville and St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in Indianapolis. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1962. Mickey followed his father's footsteps by attending the University of Notre Dame and, later, Indiana University. He was proud of each of his schools and remained loyal to the countless, lifelong friends he made along the way.
Mickey worked several jobs as a young adult before embracing his entrepreneurial streak by operating three Curley's Cleaners franchises in Indianapolis. The unquestioned highlight of Mickey's professional life was owning Mickey Quinn's, an Irish restaurant and bar in Broad Ripple from 1984 to 1994. Mickey, with his abundant charm and sharp wit, widened his already expansive circle of friends during those years. He truly listened, harvested information, stored it, and then used it to help or reconnect with friends over the years. His unique ability to make genuine connections with employees and patrons alike helped Mickey Quinn's to be routinely recognized by Indianapolis Monthly as one of the city's best nightlife establishments.
From March Madness and the NFL on Sundays to the Masters, Ryder Cup, and Triple Crown races, Mickey had an absolute passion for sports. He rooted first and foremost for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and San Francisco Giants, but he appreciated any team – including high school and youth sports teams – that played hard.
Nothing in life brought Mickey more pride than his large Irish Catholic family. He was the second of thirteen children; he was a nephew, cousin, and uncle to dozens more. Mickey considered his own additions to the family his greatest accomplishment. Mickey married the love of his life, Ann Watt, on June 17, 1967, and never let her go for the next 54 years. Together they lovingly raised three children, teaching them about love and loyalty and giving them opportunities to succeed. He was enormously proud of the adults they became and the spouses they found. Mickey was the beloved Fruppa or Pop to seven grandchildren. The "Magnificent Seven", as he dubbed them, were the center of his world in recent years. Mickey logged many miles and spent innumerable hours attending games, meets, concerts, exhibits, performances, and virtually any other event in which his grandchildren participated. Afterwards, he always offered heartfelt congratulations or supportive words of consolation.
Mickey's hearty laugh, loyalty to his friends and family, and generous spirit will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by: his parents "F" and Barb; brothers Kevin and Dino; and sister Margaret. He is survived by: his wife Ann; his children Rob (Amy), Shannon (Mark), and Kevin (Krystal); grandchildren Owen, Lydia, Conor, Norah, Garrett, Teddy, and Ryan; brothers Pat, Tim (Ellen), John (Mary Helen), Barney (Claudia), and Terry (Mary); and sisters Mary (Jon) Williams, Lolly (John) Quagliarello, Katy Kelley, and Libby (Greg) Hahn.
Family and friends will gather at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church on Thursday, March 3, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for visitation with a funeral Mass to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to IU Health Foundation in gratitude for the medical team that provided such excellent care for Mickey. Private burial will be held on Friday in Holy Cross Cemetery. O'Riley - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family. Our heartfelt sympathy to Ann and the family. So many fond memories from grade school at SJA and highschool class of 1962. Although we've been in San Diego since 1984, we still look forward to reunions and our annual visits. I feel so blessed that Mickey joined some of the girls from SAA for lunch in July of 2021 when I was in town. His laughing eyes and engaging smile will be missed by all. And oh, the stories that he could remember and share in detail from ages past! Are some of them written down?
We'll be watching the live stream funeral and our hearts will be with you. Love, Nancy & Dave
