Mary Jane (Parker) Cox was born in Bearden, Oklahoma on February 15, 1936. She graduated from Barnsdall High School in 1954. In school, she was a star basketball player, being the tallest on the team. She met her husband Gary in 1957 when he was home on leave from the Army. They were introduced by her co-worker at the telephone company. This co-worker, Vivian Cox, later became her mother-in-law. Mary and Gary spent most of their married life overseas, traveling through Gary's work while raising their children. They lived in Spain, Nigeria, Scotland, Libya, and Indonesia. In their later years, they returned to Oklahoma, living out their days in Pershing.
She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on the morning of December 12, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Dean Cox, whom she was married to for 58 years; one daughter, Callie Jo Cox; one grandson, Michael Daniels, her mother, Annabelle Hightower; her father, Hairl Parker; sister, Shirley Wadley; and brother Doyle Parker. She is survived by three children, Debra McKelvey and husband Bob McKelvey; Scott Cox; and Elizabeth Daniels and husband, Mike Daniels; two grandchildren, Corina and Connor McKelvey; one sister, Callie Caldwell; one brother, Cody Collins; numerous nieces and nephews, and her favorite dog, Penney, aka "Poochie."
Mary Jane was a devoted wife, mother, Aunt Mary, and Grammy. She was beloved by everyone she met. Her pies and banana cake were renowned. She loved Jesus and enjoyed spending time with her family, sitting on the porch watching hummingbirds, and counting jets as they flew by. Mary will be remembered by her strong faith, generous spirit, and good sense of humor.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 14, 2:00PM, at Kendrick McCartney Johnson Funeral Home, Pawhuska. Jake Bruno will officiate,
