Marianne Jean Cherilla Caspary, 81, passed away May 25, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Paul W. Caspary, Jr. for 60 years; loving mother of Lynne (David) Paul, Patricia (Robert) Adham, Christine Lauble and Paul A. Caspary; cherished grandmother of Adam Paul, Natalie (Michael) Jocz, Megan Paul, Stephanie Lauble, and Leo Lauble; dear sister of Barbara (the late Edward) Zalagens and William (Diana) Cherilla; sister-in-law to Patricia (the late Vincent) Laughlin; and treasured family member to several nieces, nephews and cousins. Marianne was born on September 9, 1940, to William Francis Cherilla and Mathilda Yago Cherilla. Raised in Oakland and Carrick, Marianne graduated from St. Basil's School in Carrick with the class of 1958. Marianne retired from Duquesne University after spending many years as a secretary in the Department of Health Sciences.
Marianne adored her family and was thrilled to attend any family-related event for any extended family member - anywhere in the country. She went to great lengths to never miss a school program or sporting activity involving her grandchildren. She maintained friendships for decades; she joyfully planned class reunions for hers and Paul's graduating classes. Marianne was an enthusiastic Girl Scout leader, hosting a campout every fall with multiple tents in her back yard as well as the back yards of all adjoining neighbors. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, and nothing made her happier than a busy holiday weekend with the house filled with family and meals served around crowded tables. She taught countless friends how to make homemade ravioli; and an enormous pot of spaghetti sauce and meatballs was commonly found simmering on the stove. Her homemade soups, beautiful boxes of Christmas cookies and handmade chocolate Easter eggs were legendary.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church on Friday, June 17th at 10:00 am, followed by interment at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery. A celebration of life for both Marianne and Paul is planned for Saturday, June 18th at the family home in Venetia. Please call (412) 862-7230 for information.
If desired, the family suggests contributions in Marianne's memory to the Beaumont Health Alzheimer's Research Fund at Beaumont Health Foundation, 26901 Beaumont Blvd, Southfield, MI, 48033 (https://www.beaumont.org/giving). Arrangements have been entrusted to Beinhauer Funeral Home.
