Loretta Adams Obituary

Loretta Adams (nee Veillette), 90, passed away in her home on Sunday, August 4, 2024, surrounded by family.
Loretta was born on November 24, 1933 in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the youngest of Ovila and Alice Veillette's eleven children. When she was 18 years old she went on a blind date at a roller rink and met the love of her life, John Adams. John and Loretta spent 65 happy years together, residing primarily in the Belchertown and Granby area throughout their lives. They raised four children: Sandra, Cynthia, Michael, and Judith.
In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Loretta worked in the kitchen at Mount Holyoke for 15 years, and in her retirement, she volunteered for the Belchertown Senior Center Store, where she made many friends over the years.
Loretta was a true extrovert with a youthful energy and a quick sense of humor. She loved to have a good time, and was known by her family and close friends for throwing lively holiday parties, where she often showcased her hidden talent as a spoon player. In addition to spending time with her family and chitchatting with her friends and neighbors, Loretta loved to travel. She and her husband took many cross-country road trips throughout their lifetime, and especially enjoyed visiting Atlantic City in retirement. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, altering many family wedding dresses, and gifting handmade quilts to nearly all of her grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband John, her son Michael, and her ten brothers and sisters.
She leaves behind a large and loving family, including her three daughters, Sandra Hooten and her husband Jacques, of Belchertown, MA, Cynthia Flynn, of Wilbraham, MA, and Judith Briggs, of Ledyard, CT, along with 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, all of whom affectionately referred to her as "Meme."
Calling hours will take place on August 15, 2024 from 5-7 PM at Beers & Story Funeral Home in Belchertown, MA. A private burial will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Agawam, MA.
