Kathleen (Kathy) Patricia (Knabe) Sutton, 88, of Lafayette, IN passed away peacefully on November 17th at Life's Journey Hospice in Avon, Indiana. Kathy was born to the late Ottilie and Edward Knabe in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
She was a registered nurse graduating from St. Louis Lutheran Nursing School in 1957. Kathy married Kenneth Darwin Sutton on June 27th, 1959. They shared 32 wonderful years together and raised six children until Ken was called to his heavenly home on March 21st, 1991.
Kathy's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted and proud mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Kathy traveled all over the United States to visit her family. She is known for her weekly newsletters that she would send to her family summarizing how each of her children and their families were succeeding in life. Each letter was signed with "Loads of Love." It is that "loads of love" that her family continues to share with everyone they encounter, being taught about love from a woman who truly loved unconditionally.
Faith has always been an important part of Kathy's life. She was a devoted follower of Christ and lifelong member of the Lutheran Missouri Synod church. As a registered nurse, Kathy worked with skilled care patients most of her nursing career, Kathy retired from Home Hospital in Lafayette in 2001 where during her nursing career she was awarded the Good Sam Award and Shreve Baird Award for giving "loads of love" to patients, families and her co-workers.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Ottilie and Edward Knabe, her sister, Judith Knabe Nigro, and her husband, Kenneth Darwin Sutton. They are now joined together again for all eternity.
She is survived by her six children: Debra (Norman) Hillman (Avon, Indiana), Daniel (Rene) Sutton (Austin, Texas), David (Wendy) Sutton (Duncan, South Carolina), Darryl (Laurel) Sutton (Hawthorne, CA), Darlene (James) Ritzline (Lafayette, IN), and Dale (Angela) Sutton (Lexington, KY); her treasured grandchildren: Douglas (Stephanie) Resendez (Indianapolis, IN), Jackson Sutton (Austin, TX) and T Sutton (Austin, TX), Chloe (Jake) Mackey (South Carolina), Colin (Kelce) Sutton (Denver, Colorado), Matthew Sutton (Carlsbad, CA), Katie Sutton (Marietta,GA), Sam (Kaylee) Ritzline (Elizabethtown, IN), Sarah Ritzline and fiancé Cameron Powers (Dayton, KY) Drew Sutton (Chicago, IL), and Beth Sutton (Chicago, IL); her precious great grandchildren: Vivian Resendez, Andrew, Amelia and Alice Mackey; her sister, Jane Knabe Brindle, and her lifelong best friend, Alyce Couwenhoven.
A funeral service to celebrate Kathy's life will be held on Wednesday, December 4th at Grace Lutheran Church, 102 Buckingham Dr., Lafayette, IN. Visitation will begin at 1 pm followed by the service at 2 pm. The burial will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 102 Buckingham Dr., Lafayette, IN 47909. Kathy's loving presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her "loads of love" will live on forever in our hearts.
