MOHAWK-Jean L. Lipsky (nee Wilt) age 74 passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Sunday evening June 12, 2022, in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. She had the comfort and support of her daughter Karen and sister Jackie byher side. Jean was born on January 22, 1948, in Herkimer, daughter of Beverly (DeCarr) Wilt and the late Lyle B. Wilt. She was raised in the Town of Ohio and was educated in Poland Central School. She furthered her education at Herkimer County Community College where she received her Associates Degree. Jean was employed in the medical and EMS fieldsincluding the Mechanicsburg Family Practice Center Resident Program, Pennsylvania Emergency Health Services Federation, and Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pottsville, PA. On August 15, 2015, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert F. Lipsky, Jr.in Young's United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg, PA. They shared a loving and devoted union until his passing on February 22, 2020. After Bob's passing, she moved to Mohawk to be nearer to her family. Jean had a strong belief in God and was an active member of Bethany Christian Fellowship in Cressona, PA, where she and Bob joined other church members on a mission trip to Spain. When she moved back to Mohawk,she became a member of the Mohawk Valley Church in Marcy. To all who knew her she was a caring, giving lady who enjoyed doing for others and who was always available to lend a listening ear, a bit of advice, and compassionate support. For nearly forty years she proudly worked and volunteered as an EMT with various ambulance companies in both NY and PAearning several awards for dedication. She was a member of Silver Spring Ambulance & Rescue Association – Company 72 where she mentored many new members along with holding numerous positions including company president. Jean made friends easily wherever she went. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends, and by her EMS brothers and sisters, many of whom referred to her as "Mama Jean."
Surviving are her mother Beverly Durand, three daughters, Nancy Felty, Tammy McConnell, Karen Ruben and her husband Patrick, a son, Charles DeCarr III, a sister, Jacqueline (Jackie) Lewis and her fiancé Kelly Brown, fifteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, and many cousins. Besides her father she was preceded in death by an infant brother Lyle Wilt Jr. in 1964.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the medical teams at UR-Strong for the dedicated care and compassion extended to Jean and her sister throughout Jean's illness, particularly to Dr. Eric Huselton, Dr. Jason Mendler, and the staff of both WCC 6 and the MICU.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family on Saturday from 9:00 until 10:00 am at the Mohawk Valley Church, 9427 Maynard Drive, Marcy, NY 13403. A funeral service will follow immediately after at 10:00 am in the church. Pastors' Mike and Susie Melnick will officiate. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery, Prospect, NY.
