On June 18, 2022, Janet Lee Wagner, 79, of Freeland, MD passed away in York. She was the devoted Navy wife to Robert "Bob" Wagner, with whom she had been married to since October 8, 1961. She was born on August 9, 1942 in Freeland, MD, to the late Gilbert Franklin and Neta Frances (Jacobs) Marsteller. Janet was a graduate of Hereford High School in Hereford, MD.
Many people know Janet by her greatest title, Nona. Not only was she called Nona by her grandchildren, honorary grandchildren, but many of her friends, some of her grandchildren's friends, and her children's friends. She loved being a Nona, anyone she became friends with she would say, "My name is Janet, but you can call me Nona."
Janet had once said her greatest accomplishments was her family, being able to be hands on with her grandchildren. She loved educating them on everything she had ever learned, she loved cooking with them, teaching them about caring for animals, baking, teaching them to properly handle a gun, and shoot bow & arrows. She was quite the archer back in the day. She played the drums in school. There were always themed parties for the family and friends. Talent shows, family day contest. Truly a person who loved life and always smiling for family and friends, she was well loved by just about any who had the pleasure to meet her.
She had always dreamed of breaking a yearling, on her own, by herself and she did, and she was very proud of that.
Janet welcomed her children's friends to their home, as well as her grandchildren's friends. She would arrange sleep outs in the back yards, have children swimming for the summer, campfires, let us go horse riding, teach us hard work, and how to love unconditionally. Janet loved playing board games and card games with her adult friends as well as her family. There were always game nights, and every Wednesday was spaghetti night.
Janet loved the ocean and staying on the beach from 9 to 5, spending hours in the ocean, getting Dumser's Ice Cream and Boardwalk fries. Janet also loved the snow and if there was snow on the ground, she could be found playing in it or sledding on the hill.
She has a beautiful yard that she did not like others to work in, it was her pride and joy, flower beds and wildflowers everywhere. Some people say it was the greatest place and experience to grow up and she was constantly coming up with new ideas for us to enjoy.
Janet will forever be loved and forever be missed, but all she taught others will be shared with generations for years to come.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; children, R. Scott Wagner and his wife, Michele, of Shrewsbury, PA, Bryan S. Wagner and his wife, Brenda, of Shrewsbury, PA, and Stephanie D. Bryan; grandchildren, Ashlynn Wagner, Alexys Bryan and wife, Victoria Rodriguez, Joshua Wagner and wife, Annique, Ashley Bryan, Matthew B. Wagner, and Anna Bryan; great-grandchildren, Oliver, Calvin and Wendell. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Geraldine, Joan, and Jean; a nephew, Bunk; a niece, Joyce and a son-in-law, Nathan W. Bryan.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be announced in coming weeks.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association, 3001 Old Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
