James Dangerfield Obituary

James Edward Dangerfield, age 85, of Kansas City, KS passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at his home. The family will receive friends at his Visitation from 9 to 11 am, and his Funeral Service will be at 11 am, both on Friday, July 1, at the New Light Missionary Baptist Church, at 228 Springdale Ave., Bonner Springs, KS 66012 with burial to follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery.
James was born in Hugo, Oklahoma on September 26, 1936 to Rev. Lannie Dangerfield, Sr. and Wilma Flemons-Dangerfield.
He was educated in the USD 204 school district graduating from Bonner Springs High School in 1955. He later took classes at Donnelly College in Kansas City, KS.
James was affectionately called James, James Dangerfield, Jimmie, Dad, Daddy, Paw Paw, Uncle and Cousin James. He was employed by the United States Postal Service for 30 years and spent two years in the United States Army and three years in the Army Reserve.
In 1976, James met Judy Hadley and made her a part of the Dangerfield family.
James enjoyed tinkering out in the yard, traveling, listening to the Mighty Clouds of Joy and Motown, but most of all; he loved to spend time with his siblings, children and grandchildren. He taught his girls, and grandchildren to swim. The highlight of his joy was taking his children to Oklahoma to see the places that he often shared stories about. He also enjoyed going on ice cream runs for himself as well as taking the children and grands and the back-to-school shopping trips, oh my, they were priceless.
Mr. James (as the nurses affectionately called him) loved to dress well, insisted on a clean house and wanted his family to look nice.
He served as a Deacon at Macedonia Baptist church and New Light Baptist where he walked in his call.
As a young adult James was the chaperone for his sisters of New Light (Dangerfield-Harrell Singers) on performing trips. He referred to it as "protecting" them, but it was really to "boss" them.
James was preceded in death by his parents, older sister Frances, some nieces and nephews, cousins and some close friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 48 years, Judy, daughters Julia (Puddin), Marcella, Karri (David), Sherri (Edward), Kathaleen and grandson, Jayden both of the home, sisters JoAnn, Barbara Sue (Robert), Marion, Lois Faye (Pastor Clyde), Rosetta, Lannie Jr. and Donald (Cheryl). James was also blessed with many grand and great grandchildren who loved him dearly.
Judy would like to thank all of the wonderful nurses and caregivers who love to hear James say funny things and feed him snacks. A special thank you to Kindred Hospice for the caring service that was provided for James. Family and friends, we appreciate you for coming to our aid when we needed you. May God continue to bless and keep each of you in HIS care!
