Eddie Long Obituary

MONROE, N.C. – On May 7th, 2022 Eddie Wilson Long met Jesus.
Eddie was born March 12, 1948, in Monroe, NC, the son of Daniel Wilson Long and Glennie Baucom Long.
He graduated from Piedmont High School, and worked at Westinghouse in Charlotte, NC for nearly 43 years.
Eddie had two children, Michael Wilson Long and Kathy Long Zavaleta whom he deeply adored and loved unconditionally.
He later married his soul mate, Frankie Taylor Long, on November 12th, 1978 and they enjoyed 44 years of happiness together.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Eddie. There was nothing he enjoyed more than making new memories with the people he loved. Eddie was a true gentleman. He loved spending time with his wife, Frankie, and attending each and every grandchild's play, football game, and recital. Family was his world. Once retired, his family grew quickly with rescue cats. He cared for a multitude over the last 10 years of his life, and he knew them all by name. They were his babies.
Eddie never met a stranger. He found the very best in everyone that he met and accepted them without judgment. He loved his jokes and stories and so did his family. Everyone who knew him loved him.
We will miss our Eddie, Daddy, and Pawpaw. How lucky we are to have loved someone who makes saying goodbye so hard.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Frankie Taylor Long; brother, Bobby Wayne Long; son; Michael Wilson Long, daughter; Kathy Long Zavaleta, Grandchildren; Catherine Long Gheen, Casey Long Clawson, Cannon Clint Long, Cailee Long Simpson, Molly Couick Mauldin, Grace Couick Giordano, Aubrey Jacob Couick, and Roman Lucas Zavaleta.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Wilson Long and Glennie Baucom Long; and his grandparents.
The family will visit with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 9th, 2022 at Holland Funeral Service, 806 Circle Drive Monroe, NC 28112. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May. 9th, at Altan Presbyterian Church, 5004 Wolf Pond Rd, Monroe, NC 28112. Graveside and burial will follow.
Eddie requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Altan Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choice.
