Donna Sue Achterberg, 69, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, after a brief illness. Born on April 9, 1956, in Lincoln, Kansas, to Loyl and Melva Achterberg, Donna's life was marked by creativity, compassion, and a deep commitment to her family, friends, and faith.
After graduating high school, Donna pursued her passion for floral design at Kansas State University. She spent many years perfecting her craft in floral shops across Great Bend, Lindsborg, and Salina before concluding her career as a floral arranger and cashier at Dillons in Salina. Her artistry brightened countless lives and special occasions.
Donna also had a love for music and shared her voice with the Sweet Adelines and her church choir, bringing joy to those who listened. Her life was a reflection of her love for others, and she found great fulfillment in her church community and the bonds she nurtured with her loved ones.
She is survived by her brothers, Marvin Achterberg (Patricia) of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and Duane Achterberg (Linda) of Hays, Kansas; nieces Miranda Eskue (Josh) of Hays, and Darcy Achterberg; step-nephew Brian Sapp (Annette) of Federal Heights, Colorado; great-niece Jordyn Sonntag (Jerry) of Hays; great-nephew Isaac Eskue of Hays; and numerous cousins. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Loyl and Melva Achterberg, and her nephew Darren Achterberg.
A memorial service to celebrate Donna's life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Salina at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina, or St. John Lutheran Church, in care of Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio St., Salina, Kansas 67401.
Donna's legacy is one of love, creativity, and kindness-a testament to the beauty she brought to the lives of those who knew her.
