Carol Mills Shanks
KATY - Ms. Carol Mills Shanks passed from this life Sunday, June 26, 2022, in Houston.
Born September 12, 1958 in San Antonio, Texas, Ms. Shanks had been a resident of Katy for 2 years, previously of Pasadena, Texas. An avid traveler, Ms. Shanks was proud to call Texas home and to enthusiastically support her Baylor Bears.
Ms. Shanks taught French in Texas public schools for 27 years before retiring from Clear Brook High School in Friendswood of the Clear Creek ISD. She had also taught in the Northside ISD and in Del Rio. She had just begun to enjoy retirement and celebrated monthly with the Seventh Decade Retirees of Clear Brook High School. She also delighted in the beauty of gardening, even while Wilbur, the rabbit, took a gastronomical delight in the same garden. Quick trips with friends, excursions to local restaurants, book club and prayer groups with her community were the pleasures that she enjoyed with the new freedom to determine her schedule.
Ms. Shank's love for travel and adventure began as an elementary student in a French school in Tours, France where her missionary parents were in language study prior to serving in the Ivory Coast of West Africa. She would later attend High School in the West African countries of Ghana and Nigeria, as a Texas teacher, she led student groups to France and surrounding countries.
Ms. Shanks was preceded in death by her parents, John Edwin and Beatrice Virginia (Miller) Mills.
Survivors include her brother, John T. Mills of Seabrook; nieces, Michelle Long and husband, Mark of Pasadena, Ashley Meyka of La Porte; nephew, Jacob Mills of Lake City.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 11, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Alta Loma, 5400 Main Street (AKA FM 646S), Santa Fe, Texas 77510, with Missionary to Namibia, Bryan Bullington officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Carol requested that new backpacks filled with school supplies to be donated to Clear Brook High School, attention Dr. Sharon Lopez. Donations can also be made to Clear Brook High School with the notation Carol Shanks Memorial, and mailed to Clear Brook High School, attention Dr. Sharon Lopez, 4607, FM 2351, Friendswood, Texas 77546.
