Billie Y. Adams, passed away on April 29, 2025 in Houston. Billie was born on October 7, 1944 in Cameron, Texas to Bill and Mamie Blevins while Bill was serving in WWII. Billie grew up and lived her whole life in Houston. She was the oldest of four girls born to Bill and Mamie.
Billie met and married Kenneth Adams in 1966. Over many years, Billie and Kenneth enjoyed trips around the country including three trips to Alaska. They especially enjoyed Colorado, specifically Rocky Mountain National Park, which they visited many times.
In 1979, they adopted their son, Andy, when he was 24 hours old. They continued their travels, and Andy came to love their trips, as well.
Billie was a retired teacher and taught many years in HISD and Aldine ISD. She taught elementary general education and art. She could always be counted on to give art supplies as gifts to the kids in the family!
Kenneth and Billie placed membership at Northwest Church of Christ in July of 1979 when Andy was 2 months old. Billie made many good friends there and enjoyed their fellowship regularly, even on Zoom when she could not make it to the church. Billie's church community has been a source of comfort to her throughout her adult life and especially so in the last several years.
Billie was an avid reader, sometimes reading three books at one time. She also read the Houston Chronicle and worked the crossword puzzle every day. She loved Wordle and continued doing her puzzles and Wordle until only a few days before her death. Billie's little dog, Riley, came into her life a few years ago and was a wonderful companion to her.
Billie is preceded in death by husband, Kenneth, her parents, and two sisters, Gladys Duran and Cynthia Blevins, and nephew, Michael Duran. Billie is survived by her son Andy, granddaughter Ellie, and sister Janet Leyden (Tim). She is also survived by her niece, Lisa Lampton (Travis), and nephews Chris Gillen (Marette), Rusty Duran, and John, Jason and Jeffery Duran. She will be missed by her grandniece and grandnephews, Eliza, Callahan, and Jacob. She will also be missed by special friends Nancy Adams, Vanessa Perez, Carol Hughes, and cousin, Pat Klopp.
Billie's Celebration of Life will on Tuesday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Northwest Church of Christ, 6720 W. Tidwell, Houston, TX 77092.
