Patricia Brittain Obituary

Patricia Crowell Brittain
May 5, 1931 - August 1, 2022
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - Patricia Crowell Brittain, 91, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022.
Born May 5,1931 in Wrens, Georgia, she was the daughter of Mary Patterson Crowell and Norfleet Crowell. Pat is predeceased by her son, David L. Brittain and her husband, Clay D. Brittain, Jr.
Throughout her life, Pat was passionate about helping others. She volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, Associated Charities, and Mobile Meals. Other organizations in which she participated include United Methodist Women, Ann Herbert/Friday Morning Circle, and the Pierian Book Club. In addition to these civic and church groups, Pat supported Brookgreen Gardens, Epworth Children's Home and Coastal Carolina University. For enjoyment, she loved reading, tennis, bridge, crossword puzzles, and walking in her neighborhood. Every other Wednesday, Pat played bridge and monthly she socialized with the Ladies' Lunch Bunch. She was an enthusiastic Tarheel fan.
Born in Georgia, Pat grew up in Newell, NC. She also claimed Charlotte as playing a big part of her formative years. She attended Harding High School and furthered her education at Women's College in Greensboro, now known as UNCG. She maintained a lifelong relationship with several college roommates.
While in college, Pat met Clay Brittain, Jr., who was attending UNC Chapel Hill, and they were married in 1954. Pat and Clay had four children: Clay, David, Matthew, and Mary, who all grew up working in the family businesses.
Pat's early married life was centered around raising her children and helping Clay at the Chesterfield Inn. In later years, she centered her life around her grandchildren: Rand, Anna, Clay, Anne-Louise, Brittain, Ben, Christine, Morgan, Nicholas, and Kaki. In December of 2021 Pat was thrilled to welcome her first great granddaughters, Vivian Clay and Harper Grace.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, August 5, 2022 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home.
A celebration of Pat's life will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Horry County or First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach.
