George Wheaton Obituary

George Henry Wheaton, Jr. died December 13, 2024. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Mr. Wheaton was born in Atlanta, Georgia on February 2, 1939 to Jeannette Nichols Wheaton and George Henry Wheaton, Sr. He grew up in Fort Valley, Georgia and graduated from Auburn University where he was a 4-year letterman on the Auburn golf team. He was an avid fan of Auburn University sports teams. While at Auburn, he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Henry's business career was in sales mainly with Johnson & Johnson, Smith Kline Diagnostics and Beckman Instruments. He was an active member of Madison First United Methodist Church, Good News Sunday School class and a men's study group at Madison Presbyterian Church.

Henry Wheaton is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jo Beth Bartlett Wheaton; children, Mark Henry Wheaton (Ellen); Shelly Wheaton Flanagin (Jimmy); Robin Wheaton Couch, Shannon Wheaton Kirley (Tim); grandchildren, Ansley Wheaton Thykeson (Alex); Emma Wheaton Lemonie (Tyler); Will Wheaton; Trey Flanafin; Wheaton Flanagin; Andrew Couch (Morgan); Sam Couch (Meagan); Sarah Couch; Elizabeth Couch; Connor Kirley; McCay Kirley; Noelle Kirley and four great grandsons, Brock and Brogan Couch and Sam and Cole Thykeson. Henry deeply loved and was proud of his large family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Madison First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 350 Madison, GA 30650 or to a favorite charity of your choice.
