Boyd Slocum Obituary

Boyd Keith Slocum

July 17, 1924 - November 26, 2023

Redding, California - Boyd Keith Slocum of 99 years, was born July 17, 1924 to Guy & Clara Slocum in Howard, South Dakota. Boyd was married to Pauline Chicoine in November 29, 1947. Pauline went to be with the Lord in 2006 at the age of 77. They had 2 sons Dennis and Rickey. Rickey went to be with Lord September of 2021.

Boyd was a faithful father and husband. He leaves behind his son Dennis & Javene Slocum of Merced, CA and daughter-in-law, Pattijo Slocum of Redding, CA, 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and many great-great, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Boyd lived a full life, serving His Country as a Shipfitter, Second Class USNR SV-6 in the US Navy on the USS Colorado during in WWII and was called back to serve in the Korean Conflict. Boyd and Pauline lived in Burbank, Newhall and Merced CA together. They square-danced for many years and traveled to several countries around the world with family and friends to see the beauty of God's creation.

Boyd also served in multiple capacities during retirement at First Baptist Church of Merced, where he was a member for 20 years and Open Door Community Church of Shingletown for several years.

Above all, Boyd believed in the faithfulness of God and the fullness of the blessed hope to come. He knew well Jesus' words in John 11:25-26 "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" The Lord called our beloved father home to be with Him Sunday, November 26, 2023. His last words were clear: "I am ready". May we each have the same peaceful departure from this earth.

Graveside service will take place at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery on December 6, 2023, at 1:30 p.m.

I have so many memories... They couldn´t all fit in this space.
Driving down to Newhall to visit as a child. The excitement of grandma and grandpa coming to Merced to live close to us and participate in near-daily activities! Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas dinners, Easter barbecues. They came to all of our extracurricular events: sports and music. They were at church every Sunday.
Then, too soon, grandma went home to heaven, and it was sad and awkward. There became a new normal with Grandpa joining us for all the same events, but half of him was missing.
Later, he moved to Shingletown to know the joy of living close to Uncle Rick and Aunt Pat, their girls and grandchildren. I know they were grateful for that opportunity to have him close as well.
I´m not sad at all that Grandpa is no longer here... His reunion in heaven with grandma and the rest of the family that´s gone on before us is too sweet to even imagine. And to know he´s looking Jesus in the face and experiencing peace - joyful and whole - is the best!!
Today we celebrate his life and his impact on many numbers of people. Grandpa was a kind, hard-working, humble, faithful man. The world was made a better place because he lived in it-but was not of it!!
