Victor Solano Obituary

Victor Julio Solano, 63, passed away Monday January 24, 2022 at Holyoke Medical Center in Holyoke. Born in San Jose, Costa Rica to Victor and Francisca (Ramirez) Solano, he was a longtime South Hadley resident. Victor was employed with the Canteen Corp in Connecticut for 30 years and most recently in Maintenance with the Holyoke Courthouse for several years. Victor leaves his loving wife, Kathleen (Nelson) (Erickson) Solano of Holyoke; his five children, Christopher Solano of Holyoke, Melissa Torres and her husband Pedro of Belchertown, Michaela Solano of Holyoke, Keith Erickson of Holyoke and Jenna Erickson of California; six siblings, Ana Cecilia Winterle, William Solano and his wife Lidia, Carlos Solano and his wife Cruz, Gerardo Solano and his wife Ligia, Rosibel LaPointe and Yanory Roque and her husband Victor Manuel Rocque; two adored grandchildren, Sean Solano and Lillyanna Torres; brother-in-law, Carlos Luis Brenes and by many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins both here and in Costa Rica. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Yadira Brenes and by his brother-in-law, Forrest LaPointe. Victor loved life, people and his family and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He enjoyed watching football with his nephews, and he found great joy in hosting many pool parties over the years and taking many beautiful rides and walks with his wife, Kathy. But Victor was happiest when he would share his cooking with his family and friends. Everything he made tasted wonderful, especially his Tamales. Family and friends are invited to meet for a period of visitation on Sunday January 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. All family and guests are asked to please wear a facemask while in the funeral. Burial will be private for the family at a later date. If one chooses, they may make a memorial donation in Victor’s memory to the charity of one’s choice or perform an act of kindness. That is something Victor would have liked. Sorry for your loss of Victor. I met him at the bulk mail center when he filled our machines. I ran into him again at the Holyoke mall. He told me he worked at the court house. He was a great guy.

Victor was a true gentleman who will be greatly missed by his friends and co-workers at the Holyoke DC. I greatly enjoyed our daily conversations as Victor made his rounds, these conversations mostly centered around the time he spent with his wife and family. It was evident in these conversations that Victor cherished the time he spent with his family. May he rest in peace and his family is in our thoughts and prayers.
