He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Sandra (Rady) Askew and his brother Robert and his parents.

Ken graduated from Southwest High School in Detroit where he was involved in junior ROTC and swam competitively. He completed graduate work at Michigan State University and Eastern Michigan University. He shared his love of learning by teaching high school English and driver's education for over 40 years at Belleville High School. He loved animals and had many non-traditional pets including a monkey, raccoon and a lamb. He served many local organizations and clubs. In the last few years of his life, he found the love of karaoke with his friends at Palm Lakes Village.

His loves were his home on the lake, fast sport cars, poetry and the love of his life, Sandy.

Mr. Askew was my 'Technical Writing' Teacher at BHS 1972 in my senior year. Oh, I had loathed him!! I had the task of writing without photos, how a Newton's Cradle works. I would write up what I thought... long hand, this is before computers etc.. and i would get it back with nothing but his marks all over it.... over and over and over.... I was going crazy (learning) trying to
getr' done to please him... But finally I got it good enough for a 'B'...

Little did I know (what do HS kids know?!?!) those lessons became what I had ended up using as a US Navy officer and physician for over 30 years. I had called him in Belleville, about 2014 while stationed in Guam. When I called, his wife answered, I told her my tale and she laughed.. "yes that sounds like my husband!!" then put him on. He did not recall me but did the exercise, and was most pleased to hear of my successful life and career! Thanks Sir!!
May we meet in Heaven again! Ed Jorgensen

Ken and Sandy were two of the most wonderful people I have ever met. We first met at the Belleville Strawberry Festival and continued through the Alfa Romeo Owner's Club Detroit Chapter. They invited me to caravan with them to a national convention, and on our way home with a couple of added cars, we stopped at a motel hoping they could accommodate all of us. Ken came back from the office with a funny grin I'll never forget, and told us - ah, this was more of a by-the-hour type of motel, maybe we should keep going. His quiet dry sense of humor would often catch me and others by surprise. He was quietly supportive and helpful with me and my Alfa. He is truly a never-to-be-forgotten man. Rest in peace, Ken, and you and Sandy give each other hugs from me. Much Love. Prayers, hugs and love to Ann and Suzan and their families.

I will never forget going to a meeting for the Belleville Area Council of the Arts that was held in the studio, watching your father writing down the "wish list". On that list was the office, community band, community choir and a website. Your parents helped make those wishes come true, and I loved working with both of them. When your father became the Executive Director of BACA, there was no doubt in any one´s mind that he was the best person for the job. My thoughts are with your entire family, and always know that those of us who had the pleasure of knowing your dad and mom are treasuring those times now.

Having missed meeting him, the impression he made on my sister in law and brother is deep and indelible. He was the kind of man who made deeper impressions to everyone around him. Substantial, multidimensional, insightful, accomplished, with roots in the community during his life. He'll be missed. God bless him.

Ken and Sandy were such an important part of my life growing up in Belleville. Ken was my driver´s education instructor and his involvement in the Auto club with my dad filled many happy weekends
