Edward Kliszus, Sr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 5, 2022.
On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, Edward A. Kliszus, Sr., loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died peacefully at 94 years old with family by his side.

Ed was born in Elizabeth, NJ, on January 20, 1928, to Antanas and Brontislava (VanSavage) Kliszus of Elizabeth, New Jersey.

As a child, he attended Sts. Peter and Paul Lithuanian Roman Catholic Church and School in Elizabeth, NJ, where he was an altar boy for 8 years. He attended Thomas A. Edison Vocational High School. He was a WWII US Navy veteran, finishing his final tour on the U.S.S. Spokane anti-aircraft ship in the North Atlantic. In Feb. 1949, he married the love of his life, Irene (Aurahan) Kliszus. He met Irene when she was 16 years old at a dance with music by band leader Xavier Cugat at Singer Manufacturing in Elizabeth Port. They were inseparable and married for 68 years. They settled in Union, NJ, and raised three daughters, Irene, Laura, and Amy, and one son, Edward, Jr. Ed earned a degree in vocational education from Kean College. He taught machine trades at the Union Vocational Technical Schools for 26 years. Ed and Irene retired in Warren County, NJ.

Ed enjoyed his grand and great-grandchildren, church, bowling, salt-water fishing, cars, and boating. He was an excellent bowler and maintained an average score of 220 when he was 80 years old. He loved buying and driving cars, from his 1949 Nash and 1956 Hudson Hornet to his Dodge Ram pickup. He was warm, boisterous, and loved to debate. Ed also enjoyed reading, day trips with Irene, and gardening in retirement.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Florence (Kliszus) Toth, and in 2017 his wife, Irene. He is survived by children Irene M. Lander (Russell), Edward A. Kliszus, Jr (Elizabeth Ann Foster), Laura Keyser (Tom), and Amy Farley (Wayne), and 10 grandchildren, Peter (Kaitlin) Lander, Allison Lander, Susan (Marty) Curro, Bonnie (Josh) Lander, Erika Kliszus, Jeffrey Kliszus, Melissa Taggart, Ted Keyser, Michael (Makayla) Farley, Alexandra Farley, and 7 great-grandchildren, Tommy, Grace, Luke, Mila, Henry, Clara, and Georgia.

His family held a private service Friday, July 29th, in Roslyn, PA.

Growing up, I loved being with my parents. I didn´t want to go away to college because I didn´t want to leave them, but they packed my stuff up and drove me there anyway. I went on vacation with them all the time well I to my 30´s. I told my dad many times that if he ever died I would have no social life, because we spent every day together for the past few years. I actually don´t know what to do with myself, it´s so strange. I had the best childhood, and the best parents I could have ever had. I am so grateful.

The world became a better place when he was born. He deeply loved his family and especially his beautiful wife, children, and grandchildren. RIP.
