Jeffrey Buell Obituary

February 4, 1958 - May 27, 2023 Jeffrey Curtis Buell, age 65, passed away following his valiant battle with glioblastoma, his family present at his home in San Jose.
Jeff, born and raised in the Malibu hills home his family built, had profound appreciation for the natural world. The wonder of the night skies led him to astronomy, photographing phenomena and developing spectacular prints of the many total eclipses he chased over the globe. Other interests included competitive archery (more likely than not appearing on the podium), hiking, and surf fishing for leisure. Jeff's childhood love of the outdoors and all things mechanical permeated his varied interests in each activity.
Jeff was first and foremost a scientist. After graduating Santa Monica High School he attended UCLA's School of Engineering, graduating with a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering/Fluid Mechanics.
Jeff embodied a total sense of fair play, treating others as he wished to be treated and displayed a morality that was appreciated by everyone he encountered. His ability to engage in meaningful conversation said tomes about his humanity. The profound combination of his highly scientific intellect and his compassionate kindness towards others led to more than one friend commenting, "we could talk for hours and all of it interesting, meaningful, but most of all enjoyable."
Jeff was predeceased by his father, Donald Buell, and sister Polly Buell. He is survived by his wife Zhanna, children Charlie and Mars, mother Marjorie, sister Nancy (Marc) niece Megan, grand nephew Kayden and loving cousins.
Take a nice long walk, look up at the night sky, and be thankful for people like Jeff.
