Eric Spencer Shaw
is survived by his mother Mary Ann Siegel, father Stephen Shaw, stepmother Yuan Shaw, brother Ethan Shaw, and niece Tatum Shaw. Family and friends all miss Eric after his courageous battle with cancer for over eight years.Eric lived in La Jolla for most of his life, and was a graduate of UCSD (BA) and Coleman College (BS). Eric was a very active surfer, skier, sailor, and motocross rider. He began surfing at age seven in Hawaii. Eric loved the ocean and was a highly skilled waterman and competition surfer.Eric was a true friend to all those who knew him ready and willing at a moment's notice to listen, laugh, console, read a book to a friend in need, sit and play chess in the hospital, all for the sake of friendship and love.Eric's family extend their heartfelt thanks to the healthcare professionals at Moore's Cancer Center for their excellent care and commitment to Eric over the years.A paddle-out for Eric has been scheduled by Windansea Surf Cub at the shack at Windansea on July 11, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. There will also be a plate lunch reception. The Club will also introduce its first annual Eric Shaw Memorial beach cleanup project. Friends and family are invited to visit Eric's family and friends at Windansea.In lieu of flowers, Eric's family would appreciate donations to Windansea Surf Club, Moore's Cancer Center, American Cancer Society, Surfrider Foundation, or to another charity of choice.
