Lynette Marie (Schmidt) Hurley was born in King City, California on May 26, 1949 to Lloyd and Betty Jo Schmidt. Lynette passed away after a brief illness on May 17, 2024 with her family by her side.
As a baby and little girl, Lynette lived on the Bray Ranch. In 1954 the Schmidt Family purchased their own ranch and moved to the Oasis District outside of King City. Lynette had an idyllic childhood growing up on the ranch with her sister, Jo Ann, and her brother, Nessen. She always loved animals of any kind; especially her dogs and cats.
Lynette attended San Lucas Elementary School and graduated from King City High School with the class of 1967. Lynette was a rally girl at KCHS and also the Salinas Valley Fair Hostess in 1966. After graduating from high school, Lynette attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Lynette always spoke fondly of her fun-filled years at Cal Poly. Lynette went on to become a beautician in King City.
Lynette married Gary Hurley in 1971. Lynette was the mother of two children, Hec and Heidi. Hec and Heidi were the loves of Lynette's life. She dedicated her entire life to her children, especially to the care of Heidi. Hec and his children, Taylor Jo, Twyster, Tatum, and Tryan were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them, going to their rodeos whenever possible, and just watching them all grow up. Lynette became a great-grandmother to Haynes in March of this year. She was so excited to be a great-grandmother and to hold and rock another precious baby.
Lynette was an excellent cook and loved to crochet; making beautiful crocheted blankets for all those special to her. Lynette was from large families on both sides – 12 Schmidt's and 8 Kennemer's – this made for lots of aunts, uncles and cousins that she so loved. Family reunions in Texas were some of her most fond memories along with the annual Schmidt picnics.
Lynette is survived by her son, Hec Hurley; her grandchildren, Taylor Jo Hurley (Will Centoni), Twyster Hurley (Rose Escobar), Tatum Hurley, and Tryan Hurley and great-grandson, Haynes Centoni. Her sister, Jo Ann (Vern) Scattini and her brother, Nessen Schmidt. Her nieces – Sami Jo (Gregg) Johnsen, Betsy (Frank) Roth, Brandi Schmidt and Sarah Jo Schmidt. Her nephews – Todd (Wendy) Sans, Nessen (Jessica) Schmidt III, and Todd (Robyn) Scattini and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins by the dozens.
Lynette was preceded in death by her daughter, Heidi, and her parents Lloyd and Betty Jo Schmidt.
