Rebecca Bear Obituary

Rebecca Anne Bear, "Becky Bear" deceased on March 29, 2022. She died from complications due to diabetes and a non-malignant brain tumor at Good Samaritan Eugene Village senior care center. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her closest family and her best friend for life, Joan Riley of Salem OR.

Becky moved to Juneau in 1979, where she wed Eric William Jackson at their property on Montana Creek Road. Becky and Eric were married for 32 years before his passing in 2010.

Born April 23rd 1945 in Chicago IL, she was the daughter of Tom Hendricks Sr. and Lucile Hendricks of Jackson TN. Becky is survived by her sons; David Bear Jackson of Eugene OR and his two children Kahlil and Nasira and Dr. Michael "Sun Bear" Jackson of Eugene OR, and his child Alia and her daughter Rhonda Jackson Bear of Juneau AK, and her son Q'on Bear-Clark of Juneau AK.

At an early age, Becky showed passion for literature, debate and theological studies. She was one of the first African American women to graduate from Governor State University with a PhD in Communications. Becky had a lifetime passion for the performing arts. She was known for being a singer, master storyteller and served as a lighting and sound technician for Perseverance Theater. Becky was also a dedicated public servant who served on the Juneau School Board for three terms. During her tenure on the School Board she was a relentless advocate for expanding access to computers and bringing internet access into Juneau's classrooms.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Becky at Aldersgate United Methodist Church Sunday, June 5th at 4pm.
