Joseph McGowen Obituary

JONESBORO - Joseph "Joey" Parker McGowen Jr., 50, of Jonesboro, departed this life Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

He was born April 4, 1972, in Jonesboro to Joseph Parker McGowen Sr. and Linda Booker.

Joey was a lifelong resident of Jonesboro where he graduated from Westside High School and Arkansas State University with a finance degree.

He was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son and brother, and great friend to many.

Joey's career began in banking where he spent 10 years before transitioning into the insurance business where he has been for the last 20 years. He was co-owner of Core Insurance Group.

Joey excelled in the insurance business through his ability to connect with others. He will be remembered for his generous heart in helping others, family, friends and clients all.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, taking trips to the lake, watching basketball and football, and cheering his daughter on at her volleyball games. Some of his fondest moments were watching sunsets happen, especially when his wife was by his side.

What Joey loved most was spending time with his wife, Lee Ann, his son, Parker, and his daughter, Morgan.

Joey is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lee Ann McGowen; his parents, Joseph Parker McGowen Sr. and Linda Booker of Jonesboro; one son, Parker McGowen, and one daughter, Morgan McGowen, both of Jonesboro; one grandmother, Willa Fay Gibson of Jonesboro; sister, Brandy (Kenny) Jackson of Jonesboro; sister, Holly (Derek) Tutolo of Jonesboro; one brother, Justin McGowen of Tennessee; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lonnie and Janet Weston of Jonesboro; a special cousin and friend Dr. Dustin (Kim) Smith of Oklahoma; and his lifelong best friend, Dr. Bart (Paige) Jones of Jonesboro.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dale Gibson.

Family and friends may visit beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at Emerson Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dan Reeves officiating.

Active pallbearers will include Dr. Bart Jones, Dr. Dustin Smith, Eric Burch, John Perry, Rob Hester, Adolfo Mancilla and Jimmy Holland.

So sorry to hear this. I enjoyed working with Joey when he first entered banking. We were next door office buddies at First Bank of At. Such a sweet young guy. He will be missed by many.
