HARRISBURG – Mrs. Geraldine Juanita Leech Evans, 97, of Harrisburg, woke up in glory in the wee hours of Friday morning, July 15, 2022, in the presence of her Savior.
She was born Nov. 16, 1924, in Weiner, the daughter of Kenneth and Thelma Holland Leech. Her parents preceded her in death.
Also preceding her was one brother, Norman Leech, and one sister, Irene Leech.
Geraldine married J. D. Evans on Oct. 11, 1941, and he also preceded her in death.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, and also a member of the Poinsett County Home Demonstration Club and Harrisburg Garden Club. She loved to cook and take care of her family, enjoyed water aerobics, and loved her church and spending time with her family and friends.
Geraldine is survived by one son, Lloyd Ray (Kay) Evans of Weiner; two daughters, Carolyn (Donnie) Crawford of Harrisburg and Kim (Donnie) Reddmann of Cherry Valley; six grandchildren, Dena (Roger) Vowell of Dallas, Nolan (Danna) Evans of Jonesboro, Brad (Bianca) Crawford of Cordova, Tenn., Jessica (Paul) Bullington and Erica (Jason) Sockwell, both of Jonesboro, and Kelby Wright and fiancée Somer Carter of Weiner; nine great-grandchildren, Chandler and Parker Vowell, Madelyn and Collier Evans, Haley Sockwell, Megan and Mike Erkens and Lily and Luke Bullington; one nephew, Gary (Jackie) Leech of Harrisburg; and special friends, Dawn Pate, Barbara Burnside, Kay Barns, Amy Roark, Emily Pate, Terrie Thompson and Dana Tinker.
The services will be conducted by the Rev. Mike Utley with the following serving as active pallbearers: Greg Reddmann, Brian King, Burt Grubbs, Clark King, Darryl Loggians and Kurt Johns.
Honorary pallbearers will be Twila Ford, Carolyn Roland, Donna Bell, Bonnie Cox, Donna Morgan, Steve Eastin, Kenneth Branum, Kevin Wright, Kenneth Wixon, Jimmy Carl King, Terry "Butch" Biggs, Butch Roberts, Jessie Murray Jr., Larry Cooper, Mark Morgan and Doug Lancaster.
Visitation was Tuesday and funeral services were Wednesday in the chapel at Jackson's Funeral Home with interment in Harrisburg Memorial Park.
The family extends a special thanks to the First United Methodist Church Social Relations Committee for their wonderful hospitality and delicious meal.
In Memory of Geraldine, memorials may be given to Bolivar Cemetery Fund, in care of Donna Morgan, Box 67, Harrisburg72432.
