HARVEY REMPEL Obituary

REMPEL HARVEY May 16, 1947 - March 26, 2022. San Diego - Harvey, our beloved husband and father, died of a cardiac arrest doing what he loved, riding his bicycle. Harvey was born in Philadelphia, PA to Nathan and Betty Rempel. Harvey attended Central High School graduating in the class of 223. He received a BBA from Temple University in 1969, an MEd in Counseling Psychology in 1987, and completed training in Gestalt Therapy at The Gestalt Therapy Institute of Philadelphia. Harvey also served in The National Guard. Trained as an accountant Harvey soon realized that kind of work wasn't a fit for him. Until he found his true passion as a therapist, Harvey worked for Amtrak as a Block operator. Harvey was a Senior Therapist at Lower Merion Counseling Services and a Program Supervisor at Children's Outreach Services in Philadelphia. In 1997 Harvey moved to San Diego and worked in various mental health facilities including the San Diego Center for Children. Harvey met his wife Linda in 1981 at Chamounix Mansion in Fairmont Park. Harvey led a bike ride from there to Nockamixon State Park and Linda was the slowest person in the group. The two got to know each other quite well on that ride! Harvey and Linda were married in 1983 and gave birth to their son Mark in 1996. Harvey loved riding his bicycle and rode many long-distance treks. He miraculously recovered from a cardiac arrest while biking with the Sierra Club in January of 2020. Knowing he had heart disease he went to great lengths to stay healthy by exercising daily and following a whole food plant-based diet. Harvey had an encyclopedic knowledge of Rock and Roll and loved the Beatles. He loved shopping at Costco and buying gifts for others. His kindness, wry sense of humor, and gentle soul will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Harvey is survived by his wife Linda Robinson and his son Mark Rempel. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Rempel and sister, Frances Ettenger.

I'm so sorry to hear of Harvey's death. We were classmates at Birney Elementary School, and though I have not seen him since then, he was one of those people who I wondered about. Condolescenses to his family and fruends

Harvey was a kind and gentle soul. Interesting, intelligent, wry, we often found each other walking our dogs after midnight, sometimes talking a little too loudly as our neighbors slept. I missing seeing Harvey around the neighborhood. An example of the good departing too soon. Love to Linda and Mark. May Harvey's memory be for a blessing.

I never would have imagined that when we stayed with Harvey and Linda over New Year´s to say goodbye to 2021, that it would be the last time we got to spend time with Harvey. The things we take for granted.

I always thought of Harvey as an Old Soul, wise about the ways of the world and generous in sharing his insights. We have lost a special person. Condolences to Linda and Mark, we love you both and consider you as our extended family.

Ride on, sweet Harvey.

I didn't know Harvey, but could identify with his love for cycling. And that was awesome he could find and follow his passion in life!

My condolences to Linda and son, Mark, for the loss of your beloved Harvey. I'm glad to have shared many bike rides and interesting conversations with him along the roads. He was a quiet, but genuine man. I
am glad he continued to pursue his passion of biking! Harvey will be missed.
