Jarvis Buchanan Obituary
Jarvis Lendon Buchanan, age 94, passed peacefully on June 25, 2025, in Cedar Park, Texas, at the Isle at Cedar Park, an assisted living facility where he and his wife, Patsy, of 69 years lived for the last few years. Before moving to the Isle, they lived in Highland Haven for 35 years, a community near Marble Falls and Kingsland.
Jarvis (referred to as Buck by many) was born in Corsicana, Texas on June 17, 1931. He served in the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War. Jarvis and Patsy met in 1955, after he served in the military. They married in February 1956. Most of Jarvis's career he worked for the Air Force Reserve as a flight engineer on the C-130 airplane, including Storm Tracker detail in Biloxi, Mississippi. He served almost 30 years in the Texas Air National Guard and U.S. Air Force Reserve. They lived in the Houston area for 21 years, working and raising two daughters, Sandra and Sheila. Following the closing of Ellington AFB, they lived briefly in Florida, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and west Texas before settling in Highland Haven.
A funeral service will be held at 11:15 am, Wednesday, July 30 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. A visitation/celebration of life will follow on Sunday, August 3, from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Highland Haven Community Center.
Jarvis enjoyed working in the yard and always had the thickest, greenest grass on the block; and perfectly edged! Neighbors joked that if one leaf fell, he was there to remove it. Neighbors also wondered at times if Jarvis was a used car salesman because you never knew when he'd come home with a different vehicle, a project to clean up, then trade or sell. (Much to Patsy's dismay.) He also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, and spending time with family and friends. A favorite event was the 'fishing trip' each fall at Lake Sam Rayburn. Eventually wives and other family members were included in the fun reunion.
He is survived by His wife, Patsy; two daughters, Sandra Nelson and husband John, and Sheila Lange and husband Pat; three step grandsons and daughter-in-law (Troy Lange, John Nelson, Mark Nelson and Leslie Nelson); and two great granddaughters (Marley and Lilly Nelson); brother Robert Buchanan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lotice Christie Buchanan and Leonard Buchanan, brother Weldon Buchanan, sister Patty Sue Maxwell, and sister Nell Rehders.
Special thanks to the kind, caring teams at the Isle at Cedar Ridge and Silverado Hospice who took such loving care of Jarvis, and Patsy as she cared for him.
