Geraldine Roustio Obituary

Geraldine Viola Roustio

Aug. 17, 1940 - Nov. 22, 2023

DECATUR - Geraldine "Gerry" Viola Roustio (nee Bischof), departed from this life and entered her heavenly home on November 22, 2023.

Gerry was born August 17, 1940, in East St. Louis, IL, to Vince and Viola Hopfinger Bischof. She married Melvin J. Roustio on June 11, 1960, in East St. Louis.

Gerry is survived by her husband Mel "Moe;" her three children: Stephen (Kathy) Roustio, Dawn (Shawn) O'Keefe, and Pamela (Tim) Howell; fifteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Gerry is also survived by one brother, Glenn (Bonnie) Bischof; brothers-in-law: Tom (Vicky) Roustio, and Marty (Denise) Roustio; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Don (Marilyn) Bischof, and Vince (Ruth) Bischof; sisters: Jean (Jack) Conrad, and Lois (Jerry) Coyle; and in-laws, Mel Sr. and Lucille Roustio.

Gerry graduated from St. Teresa Academy in East St. Louis in 1958. She became a dental assistant before becoming a mother and a lifelong homemaker. After raising her children, she continued working various jobs, one of which she truly loved as a bridal assistant at S'quire Bridal Shop. Gerry embraced her life as a homemaker and a coach's wife.

She found true joy in her family as was evident to all her grandkids who looked forward to "NaBoo" Camp every summer. Gerry loved family gatherings, bible study, volunteering, doing ceramics, gardening, vacationing, antiquing, and spending winters in Miramar Beach.

Gerry was a consummate giver and had a profound love for all people. She was kind, selfless, wise, and compassionate. She taught lessons of gratitude and joy throughout her entire life. She faced adversity with dignity and all who knew her instantly loved her. She was a constant source of love, support, and guidance to her family. Her lasting legacy to her family is to love one another unconditionally and embrace life with joy. She truly walked humbly with her God.

I believe Gerry was God´s gracious gift especially to me in my childhood... she was a mentor to me even at our very young ages of 8 and 9. She had such a presence about her I will never forget and was always my "go to" friend for advice. I am sure she shaped my life; I was very lucky. We remained close friends even after Moe entered the picture and eventually married her and they moved away. I missed her then and now I´m missing her again.
My sincere condolences to Moe, Steve, Dawn, Pam and all the grandchildren, nieces and nephews I am sorry I can´t be with you Monday due to illness
