David Sowards Obituary

DAVID MICHAEL SOWARDS, SR., 76, of Barboursville, WV, passed away peacefully at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House on January 28, 2025. Born July 9, 1948 in Huntington, he was the son of William O. and Malta (Boyd) Sowards. David was a graduate of Huntington East Vocational School. David was retired from Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local 521, after over 50 years. David loved the outdoors and was an avid reader.
Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Eliza Mae (Maynard) Sowards; sons, Michael (Kim) Sowards of Salt Rock, WV and Eric (Shannon) Sowards of Memphis, TN; grandsons, Kyle (Makala) Sowards of Barboursville, WV, Cole (Rachel) Sowards of Salt Rock, WV, Colton Sowards of Memphis, TN and Kaden Sowards of Memphis, TN; five great-grandkids; sisters, Ruth Midkiff of Huntington, WV, Reba Gothard of Cary, NC, Carol Fuller of Kenova, WV, Pat (Gary) Hesson of Middletown, PA; a host of nieces and nephews; and his dog and "best buddy", Kash.
He was preceded in death by his father, William O. Sowards and mother, Malta (Boyd) Sowards, sisters, Bobbie Hawkins of Kingston, TN, Peggy Butcher of Huntington, WV, and brother, William "Jake" Sowards of Salt Rock, WV.
A celebration of life and viewing will be held at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m.
