Joseph Yocum Obituary
May 25, 1953 - November 24, 2023
Fresno, California - Joseph "Chris" Yocum passed away peacefully at Hinds Hospice Home on Friday, November 24, 2023. Chris was born in Fort Smith, AR, to John and LaQuita Yocum, and moved to Fresno, California as a young boy. He attended Addams Elementary, Bullard High School, and Fresno State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins as a pitcher. After baseball, he worked in the lumber industry as a salesman for 34 years.
He was a doting son, husband, father, and grandfather and cared for his extended family dearly. He loved the Lord, was quick to lend a helping hand, and stayed light-hearted through life's ebbs and flows.
He is preceded in death by his mother LaQuita; his father John; and his brother Daniel.
Chris is survived by his brother, Phillip Yocum and his wife Jeannie; uncle, Carl Yocum and his wife Martha; daughter, Andrea Meyers and her husband Andrew; son, Matthew Yocum and his wife Carolyn; four grand-children, Emma and Micah Meyers and Miller and Lake Yocum; former wife, Diane (Warnke) Yocum and the Warnke family; beloved Yocum, Lasurdo, Bates, and Stice cousins; sister-in-law Susana Schubert; nephew, Javier Morelos; niece, Kristy Yocum; and treasured relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at NorthPointe Community Church - Bullard Campus (Lifeway) (4250 W. Bullard Ave.) on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.
The family would like to thank Hinds Hospice for their compassionate care during Chris's final days.
Remembrances are welcome in his name to Bullard Athletics Booster Club or Hinds Hospice.

I am so sorry and sad to hear this. I did not find out about Chris´s passing till after.
I worked with Chris for 15 years at American Forest products and we´d be later became Huttig building products. Chris and I shared many similar interest in baseball and music. I remember running into him at the batting cages while he was working with the kids and we were taking cuts getting ready for our adult leagues.
We also had similar taste in music. He liked jazz and Funk, so we would talk about Tower Of Power and Lydia Pense & Cold Blood. I would always look forward to running into him at the Fulton 55 when Lydia Pence and Cold Blood would come and play he was a nice and gentle soul, easy easy to talk to and get along with he will truly be missed your friend, Sam Caldera

Chris, you were like a brother to me. I will always cherish the memories of spending time with you at Grandma and Grandpa's house when we were little. Even though we didn't spend much time together after we grew up, I will miss you. RIP, dear cousin. I love you.

My brother, Richard and I have known and loved Chris since our Bullard baseball days. He was a friendly, down to earth guy who was quick with a smile and chuckle. Chris and I attended a game at Bullard this last March. We chatted about our baseball buddies, HOF players from MLB, and his friendship with Sandy Koufax, who he met through his customer in Templeton. Chris is home with the Lord!

So glad we got to talk at our 70's party. Laughed about when we were kids at vacation Bible school. How great a pitcher you were that we nick named you "Smokum Yocum". Will miss you my friend. The Lord has a deep pitching roster now. All my love to your wonderful family and my sincere condolences.
