David Martin Obituary

David Martin was the first face I saw when I came to FCC. He cared so much about his students, he was one of the most impactful professors I ever had. He explained he wanted to bridge the gap between the hearing and Deaf world, which is why ASL 1 was his favorite class to teach. It was peoples first step into learning ASL and breaking down those barriers as Prof. Martin put it. He encouraged us to keep going and continue along our ASL journey. I will be starting my ASL program next spring, and Prof. Martin played a big role in that. I am forever grateful to have known Prof. Martin as a man who loves his family more than anything.

As neighbors, we are saddened to loose David. He was an excellent ASL Teacher to me at FCC. He also taught my sister in law, Nixo in NM! David's reach for education was amazing. He often had a cigar burning which was a quiet way to know he was on his front porch. They smelled of good quality. Or should I say when I smelled his cigar, I knew he was enjoying life on his front porch. He has a wonderful family and we hope to hear all of his children & grandchildren visit often. He leaves behind this wonderful family of his life taken far to early. We will miss you dearly. Thank you good neighbor.

David introduced me to the deaf community and ASL, I am now just weeks away from my certification. I thank him and his family so deeply for introducing to me such a huge part of my life. As I enter my last semester at FCC, I will miss seeing David everyday, and will forever keep him in my memory.

This is my second message...I posted my first message early on...before the memorial service which was nice. He was mentioned as an amazing man in different ways. Come to think of it, something else is amazing: David Martin had been able to maintain his 'crew cut' hairstyle as he grew older. Most men don't. Godspeed.

Both Jim & I were crushed to learn of his sudden passing. When we moved to Frederick 18 years ago, he was one of the first people to introduce us to the local community. His welcome & generosity was, and is, truly appreciated. He is much missed. Thank you, David.

I am so very sorry to hear of David's death. He was one of the best teachers I've had and I learned so much from his classes. He was a truly joyful person and will be deeply missed.

I met him when I went to mens retreat at MADMR in PA He was Very Warm and Welcomed me there we chatted about New England Sports and deaf schools in Mass He is a amazing man of God always Loved his Singing at MADMR and online and loved watching his Breakfast Vlogs God Bless the whole Martin Family until we meet again MADMR will never be the same again without you

My condolences to David's family during this time. I have fond memories of David when he first started at FCC back in the mid-2000s and had the pleasure of taking an ASL class with him. He is well known and respected in the Deaf Community across the nation. Rest in peace, David.

David touched so many lives and people from all walks of life. I am going to truly miss working with him. ASLTA was fortunate to have his loyalty. We lost another giant. We miss you!

My heartfelt condolences to David's family. I know he is going to be sorely missed by many of us. In the field of ASL & Deaf Studies teaching, we will definitely feel his absence. I first knew him as a cute lad when he enrolled at MSD during my Middle School years (Intermediate Dept.). We shared some ideas regarding ASL teaching. David was always friendly and available to talk with me. May all the cherished memories help comfort David's family during this difficult time.

You will be missed. You joy of life, you spirit of giving and sharing, your love of living & of family & of community will be what we miss most...and will try to strive to honor your greatness in these things. Your sense of humor, man, did you ever tease!!! All because you loved, you understood "to whom you belonged, the Lord Jesus Christ". Miss you, never forget you!

Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of your son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. I wish I had known him even for a little bit.

David is most endearing to all who know him; he truly left a signature on the world. We have our favorite stories and memories Mine is when David and Deb got their first jobs in the Office of Enrollment Services right after graduating from Gallaudet U....as recruiters and ambassadors reaching out to students and their families, schools, and alumni. They as a team truly made huge differences in many many lives. Their romance was also blossoming. :) We went to their beautiful wedding. Forever memories and legacies. Prayers, love and condolences to the whole family.

David was a sweet, kind, funny, loving, smart man.
I 1st met David when my brother, Norman Bauman & him became Lifetime friends.
They both attended MSD & Gallaudet together.
Now they both are in Heaven talking & arguing football.

David was related to my MSD classmate ('55) who was my close friend as well. David and I were colleagues as ASL raters of incoming students at McDaniel College. I recall seeing David as a young recruiter for Gallaudet. He was always nice to me. Godspeed.

I was very stunned by the news about David´s passing away. He was a good and godly man. We met when I started blogging about ASL, he contacted me and developed a friendship. I look forward to meeting him in heaven. My sympathy goes to Martin's family. Pray for you all. May the Lord´s grace be with you all!
