I knew you only through your work as a computer scientist. I still have your structured BASIC translator. I wanted to let you know that it still works, but alas, you have slipped beyond. Hail and farewell, Ken.

Ken was my mentor and strongest supporter as my Chair at UM-Dearborn. My daughter when she was 8 or 9 loved talking to him. A true gentleman.

Dr. Modesitt was the first CIS professor I had at University of Michigan - Dearborn. That was in 2001. I now have all three of my degrees - B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D in CIS from UM-Dearborn and teach there as well as my primary position at Oakland Community College as professor and CIS department chair. Dr. Modesitt always told us stories about his own Ph.D. experience, and I found these little talks very inspirational, as well as the other conversations I had with him.

I am so sorry for his family and friends' loss, and pray for peace for you all. Know that he made a major difference in many lives.

Mrs Jan, my heart is heavy right now and want to tell you again how much I respect you and Mr Ken. I promise his spirit lives on! Til the day I join him, people will know that Mr Ken and yourself did an amazing thing for me. I will always remember our games we played at the table and that hot tub on the deck in the snow :) what a unique and wonderful person Ken was. I´m so honored and lucky to have met him.
