I met Joe a number of times during my employment at Martin Sprocket & Gear. He was a great man to work for and he built a great company. He will be missed.

To my good friend Reid. I was so sorry to hear about Joe´s passing. I remember when I was giving my salutatorian speech at Arlington High School graduation and I saw him laughing out loud when I said the line from the Schlitz beer commercial about grabbing all the gusto we can. I was pleased that I made him laugh. I wish I could have been there to give you a hug. I´ll cherish my memories of you and your dad.

Joe and Priscilla (and Chas, of course) have been long-time friends of my family, the Summeralls. Priscilla used to work with my mother at Neimans in the 70s, which is how they met. After the Martin's graciously hosted us at their suite in Cowboys Stadium, and after several holiday dinners and lunches together over the years, I can say without a doubt they are exceptional and kind people. Joe would always lovingly turn to Prsicilla when he was about ready to head home, and he'd say, "Prsicilla, it's time to take me to Fort Worth" -- typically, we were dining somewhere in Dallas (of course, this was before Chas opened one of his incredible restaurants that is). Well I know he's home now (and to this day, I lovingly turn to my wife and attempt to emulate this prhase and his loving sentiment). I was always fond of Joe's character and demeanor. I can attest that Mr. Martin was a true storyteller -- the few stories that I was fortunate enough to hear were great ones, you never forget. And in that vein, he will never be forgotten, and I know he will certainly be missed by all the lives he impacted over the course of his 93 years on Earth. Much love. Scott Summerall, Dallas, TX

I worked 10 years at Martin Sprocket & Gear, 1988-1998 when his brother Gary was running things. I met Joe a few times over those years and he was always friendly and kind. The company was a great to work and back in 1988 when I really to find a job really fast, Martin Sprocket was willing to take a chance on me. Condolences to the family and friends of Joe. We all lost a great man.
