Craig Rosenvall Obituary

Craig Rosenvall

December 15, 1954 – July 4, 2022

Sandy, Utah - Craig Rosenvall, age 67, passed away at his home in Sandy, Utah on July 4, 2022, surrounded by his family, after a short but difficult battle with pancreatic cancer. Craig was born on December 15, 1954, in Falmouth, Massachusetts.

As a young child he moved frequently and lived in California and Utah. He was raised in humble beginnings mostly by his mother, Patricia Joan Weaving, who was a citizen of Great Britain. They eventually stayed in Utah and that is where he remained during his life.

He was a graduate of Skyline High School (Millcreek, UT), and received an undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering from Weber State University (Ogden, UT). He distinguished himself as an entrepreneur, founding numerous businesses including Alpha Warranty. Later in life, he became a builder of custom homes across the Salt Lake Valley.

Craig served his country as a Green Beret with the 1/19 th Special Forces (Airborne). He retired as Lieutenant Colonel. Over his 23 years of service in the U.S. Army, he served as Battalion Commander at Camp Williams (UT), jump master and was HALO (high altitude low opening) certified, and deployed numerous times to Bangladesh, Thailand, Korea, Guam, and Egypt. He leaves behind many friends and colleagues from his military service.

Craig was an avid hiker and outdoorsman. He enjoyed "once-in-a-lifetime" experiences, and reached the summits of Mounts Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Aconcagua (Argentina), and Elbrus (Russia), and persevered hiking up Mount Everest and across the Appalachian Trail. He loved adventuring up and down the Wasatch Mountains near his home, and across his mother's homeland of England.

Craig was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a young man in the California Sacramento Mission. He was a devoted scout leader throughout his adult life, imparting a love of nature and life skills to countless young men and women, including his children and grandchildren. He also served as a Bishop, High Councilor, and Elders Quorum President.

Craig's pinnacle summit in life occurred in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple in 1976, where he married his sweetheart, Susan Peterson Rosenvall, for time and all eternity. His greatest adventures were with his children and grandchildren who enjoyed venturing with him on foot, in his jeep, or in his garden. All who knew him loved his sense of humor and the fun he created.

Craig is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan Peterson Rosenvall. He is also survived by his siblings Gail King (Russell); Doreen Hager (Ken); Blake Rosenvall (Reanna); Alane Stephens (Brent); his children: Laurie Holbrook (Dane), Steven Craig Rosenvall, Amy Nash (Nic), Ryan Craig Rosenvall (Haley); and his grandchildren: D. Isaac Holbrook, Allison Holbrook, Lucas Holbrook, Colton Rosenvall, Saige Rosenvall, Diesel Nash, Ethan Holbrook, Ryder Nash, Chloe Nash, Capri Nash, Rosie Rosenvall. He was preceded in death by his sister, Teresa Rosenvall, and his mother, Patricia Joan Weaving.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 8 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary: 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, UT 84092. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, July 9, at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: 2135 Pepperwood Dr, Sandy, UT 84092. A brief visitation will take place at 9:30 am prior to services. Interment and military funeral honors will follow at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery: 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, UT 84092.

The family plans to record and live-stream the service for those who cannot attend. The funeral can be streamed at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89525603891

I´m so sad to learn of Craig´s passing. I was a fellow missionary with him and enjoyed our association many years ago. He was a great guy and my prayers of comfort go out to his sweet wife and family. He will be missed but is now safely home with loved ones.

Dearest Susan and family,
My family and me are so saddened at the news of Craig´s passing. He is a larger than life hero to our family. Craig was always at the ready to help us no matter what the problem or need was. He was a great home teacher, scout leader, religious instructor, military advisor, and good friend. He was so helpful and so full of fun.
My son, Matthew, remembers him as the best Scout Leader he ever had. Craig had faith in Matt and taught him to trust in himself and was instrumental in him joining the Utah National Guard. Matt remembers how much fun they had together while learning important life skills.
My daughter, Jennifer, loved Craig as a home teacher and became an employee of Craig´s business as she graduated from high school.
Craig taught gospel doctrine in our ward and gave me some references of wisdom from the Book of Mormon war era. I treasure those golden nuggets of thought. They have touched my heart many times.
You and he have raised a wonderful family and added so much to our lives and the lives of many many others. I wish you the comfort and peace of Heavenly Father as you go through this difficult time.

Another friend, Diane Lemmon sends her love and appreciation for Craig´s life and influence upon her and her family, as well. We are both so sorry we were unable to attend the services for him as I am sure they were awesome.
May God sustain you in your loss. I have lost two husbands now and you have my sympathy and understanding. If I may be of any assistance to you, my cell phone is 801-244_0512.
Love, Mary Jean Workman

My heart is breaking for the Rosenvall family. Craig was a legend and will never be forgotten. He joins the many great former members of the Draper 9th ward that have passed before him. I imagine they will enjoy seeing their fearless leader again. Love and hugs to you all.
