Teresa Hellman Obituary
Teresa Ann Hellman was born on November 9, 1951 to Eugene and Evelyn Borthwick in Salem, Oregon. She was the fourth of seven children. Her family moved to Albany when she was seven and she spent the rest of her life there. She attended Albany Union High School and graduated in 1969. She attended Linn Benton Community College for a short time and while there took cake decorating classes. Over the years she made and decorated many wedding cakes including her own.
She grew up in a very musical family and continued her love of music throughout her life.
She met her husband Valentine M Hellman while they were both working in the custodial department at Oregon State University. They were married August 19, 1972.
Housekeeping and childcare were her two main careers.
She was a lifelong Catholic and passionate about her faith. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish in Albany where she sang in the choir for many years. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and had just received her 50-year pin.
Teresa loved chocolate, gardening, the coast, and spending time with family and friends. Later in life she enjoyed going on cruises with her husband and one cruise with her husband and her sisters and their husbands.
Teresa is survived by her stepdaughter Lisa Hellman of Tucson, Arizona; sons Valentine E. Hellman (Heather) of Beaverton, Oregon, and Timothy Hellman of Beaverton, Oregon; daughter Katie Monaco (Andrew) of Corvallis, Oregon; and son Thomas Hellman of Albany, Oregon; grandchildren Tabitha and Elijah Hellman, and Eugene, Justin, and Hailey Monaco.
She is also survived by her brothers Mike and Jack Borthwick, and her sisters Linda Townsend and Patty Sheler. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Kathy Hauth, and her brother Ralph Borthwick.
Teresa was a sweet woman who was supportive of family and friends and everybody loved her.
Viewing will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany, Oregon on Wednesday, May 15 from 9:30am to 10:30am. Rosary at 10:30am. Funeral Mass at 11am.
Graveside service will immediately follow the Mass at Willamette Memorial Park Cemetery (@12:30pm).
A reception will be held back at St. Mary's church following the graveside service.
