Kathryn Jean "Kathy" Lemley Shaw, age 92, of Marysville, died peacefully Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at The Bluebird Retirement Community.
A longtime educator, she retired in 1986 after 33 years. She taught elementary school at Milford Center Elementary, Rio Grande Schools, Circleville City Schools and North Union Schools. Prior to her retirement, she served as the media specialist at Fairbanks Schools.
Following retirement, she was a librarian at the Marysville Public Library for many years.
She was a 1949 graduate of Cheshire High School in Gallia County and received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Rio Grande College. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma educational honorary and a charter member of Union County Retired Teachers Association.
A longtime member of Marysville First United Methodist Church (now Cornerstone Global Methodist Church), she was a Sunday school teacher and was active in many other capacities. Kathy was an active participant in the Central Ohio Emmaus Community for many years.
She was a member of Fortnightly Club of Marysville, the Red Hat Society and was a longtime member of Mary Chapter, No. 9, Order of Eastern Star where she served as a Past Worthy Matron.
In their retirement, Kathy and her late husband, Jim, enjoyed their second home in Cape Coral, Florida where she helped at the library at the condominium complex.
She was passionate about always learning. She was an avid reader — perhaps a book a week — and enjoyed gardening, puzzles and square dancing. She and Jim were members of The Village Squares dance club and traveled for square dance events, including a jaunt to Bermuda and many states.
Above all, she adored her family and lovingly doted on her grandchildren and great-grandson.
Kathy was born August 23, 1931, in Gallia County, Ohio, the only child of the late Rex Andrew and Carrie Christine Ward Lemley. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, James W. Shaw; and a granddaughter, Mary Kathryn Harrison.
She is survived by her son, Steve (Patricia) Shaw of Delaware; her daughter, Stephanie (Dan) Harrison of Milford; her grandchildren, Andrew Shaw, Brian Shaw, Christine (Dan) Bokros, Beth (Ryan) Hardin and Clark Harrison; her great-grandson, James Hardin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, January 8, 2024, at Cornerstone Global Methodist Church of Marysville where the family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Peggy Hoy will officiate.
Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery beside her husband.
