George Louis "G L" Haney Jr., 76, of Mt. Track Road, Orange, died on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at the Dogwood Village of Orange. Born September 10, 1939, in Albemarle County, he was the son of the late George Louis Haney and Janice Erline Lamb Haney.He signed with the New York Yankees in 1959 after graduating from Orange County High School. He was a member of the Barboursville Methodist Church, a life member of the Orange County Rescue Squad, an avid golfer, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was with law enforcement for 20 years and served as Captain with the Orange County Sheriffs Office before retiring from the Central Virginia Regional Jail.He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Haney of Orange; a daughter, Dorrie Bowman Lyons of Iowa; three sons, Michael Stephen Haney of Orange, Matthew Lewis Haney and wife, Brittany, of Orange, and Bob Bowman of Iowa; eleven grandchildren including Madeline Noelle Haney, Austin Matthew Haney, Colton Thomas Haney, and Carson Lee Haney; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Haney and wife, Betty, of Scottsville, and Larry Haney and wife, Connie, of Barboursville; and one sister, Jeanette Varner and husband, Charles, of Barboursville.Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 27, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Preddy Funeral Chapel, Orange with interment to be held at the Maplewood Cemetery, Gordonsville. Pastor Craig Newman will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Preddy Funeral Home, Orange.Preddy Funeral Home of Orange is assisting the family.
