John Kane Obituary

John W. Kane Jr., of Thornton, PA, passed away on July 2, 2022. He was 86. He was the son of John and Pauline Kane of Wilmington, DE. John graduated from Salesianum School in 1954, the University of Delaware in 1958, and the Fordham University School of Law. He also retired as a Captain from the U.S. Army Reserves. After college, John moved to New York City to work for Union Carbide as a chemist. While working, he went to school at night to earn his law degree. It was in NYC that he met his wife, Karen (nee Huebscher) of 59 years. In 1966, he moved to the suburbs of Philadelphia to work for Scott Paper Company, where he remained for 27 years, eventually becoming their Chief Patent and Environmental Attorney. John was a man of great faith and a devoted husband and father. While his children were growing up, there was nothing that he enjoyed more than watching his sons play ice hockey and traveling with his daughter to watch her compete in horse competitions. After he retired, his favorite hobbies included photography, traveling to France and Italy with his wife, and spending time in Nags Head, NC, with his children and grandchildren. He was also involved in The Thornbury Historical Society and The University of Delaware chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity. John is survived by his wife Karen; children John Kane of Santa Cruz, CA, Timothy Kane (Jennifer) of Charlottesville, VA; Elizabeth Spiker (Theodore) of Gainesville, FL; Michael Kane (Lauren) of West Chester, PA, and former daughter-in-law Diane Kane of Frederick, MD; and grandchildren Meghan Kane, Stephen Kane, Ryan Kane, Sophia Kane, Alexander Spiker, Thaddeus Spiker, and Daniel Kane. A graveside service will be held at St. Malachi Church in Cochranville, PA, in September. The exact date and time will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
