Edward Dixon Obituary

Edward Stephen Dixon, passed away suddenly at his home on October 13, 2023.

Edward was born in Schenectady on September 3, 1944, the son of the late James and Marion Dixon. Ed graduated from Colonie Central High School in 1963. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Ed served as a Boatswain's Mate and rose to the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer. He married the love of his life Eileen Carol Davis on November 21, 1964. Ed left the Navy after suffering a debilitating injury and began employment for General Electric. He participated in the General Electric apprentice course and held positions as a Sheet Metal Smith and eventually as a Winder. Ed was a member of the 1st Six Sigma Black Belt program at G.E. involved in process, design, and method improvements within the manufacturing of Steam Turbines. He retired from G.E. after 35 years of service. During his employment at G.E., Ed served as Water Commissioner for the Town of Rotterdam.

Ed was the Father to four children with his beloved wife Eileen, son Edward Dixon and his wife Wendy from Rotterdam, son Kenneth Dixon and his wife Melissa of New Jersey, son Michael Dixon and his wife Cheryl of Warners, NY and daughter Kathryn Hamblet and her Fiancé Bruce Greeley of Rotterdam. Ed was blessed with 9 grandchildren, Olivia, Georgia, Grant, Alyssa, Juliana, Mikey, Hayley (Tito), Joseph (Katie), and David. One great grandchild: Jackson Dixon. Surviving Ed is his brother James Dixon and his wife Dina, his brother Richard Dixon, his sister Mary Alys Prostak and his brother John Dixon and wife Mary. Brother-in-laws Paul Gauvin and William Gauvin. Ed is also survived by his many nieces and nephews and their families. He is also survived by his goddaughter and niece Rebecca Santoli who held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth.

Ed's wife, children and grandchildren were the pride of his life, they provided him with so much joy and happiness. Ed was a gentle giant that touched so many lives. His children were the luckiest kids to have the most amazing father and grandfather. During his son's involvement in the Boy Scouts, Ed was the Scoutmaster for Troop 10. He was responsible for the molding and mentoring for many young men in Rotterdam. Ed coached teams for Rotterdam Girls Softball when his daughter was a player, his focus was fun and winning was a bonus.

Ed and Eileen traveled across the United States and throughout the northeast with their children, grandchildren and very dear friends Dick and Debbie Farrigan on many family vacations. Ed was an avid outdoorsman hunting and fishing in the woods and lakes around New York. Ed was a life member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

Funeral services will begin Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderand Avenue followed by a Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace 210 Princetown Road, Rotterdam. Calling hours will be Wednesday afternoon from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
