Leah Johnson Obituary

Celebrating the Life

of Leah Johnson

Leah Kay Johnson, age 55 of Conroe, Texas, went to be with Jesus, June 1st, 2022. Leah was born in Baytown, TX to Susie Dianne Wood and "Bubba" Johnson, both graduates of Conroe High School.

One of her many gifts was her ability to connect with children, matched equally with her passion for helping and serving those children. Leah graduated from Conroe High School in 1985, and following her passion, she obtained her degree in Early Childhood Development from Austin Community College and began her lifelong career in education working in the Conroe ISD for many years. Leah worked at Armstrong, Wilkinson, Stewart, Bush, Deretchin, and others in several roles, but most of her career she focused on children with special needs and learning disabilities, using her God-given gift to serve the children who needed it most. In addition to Leah's service through her work, she also volunteered at Vacation Bible School, West Conroe Baptist Church, Special Olympics, county farmer's markets, county festivals, and many other community organizations in the Conroe area, reflecting her lifelong theme of "service to others".

Leah was vibrant and funny, with a remarkable smile and a contagious laugh that lit up the room and faces of every person in it. She was friendly, a positive life force, loved dearly by friends, family, co-workers, and everyone lucky enough to meet her even once. Leah had many passions, including all things Texas, the Cowboys, classic rock music and concerts, espresso, traveling globally and road-tripping locally to her favorite State Parks. During her last five years, she found the love of her life to share these passions with - Marty Cantrell - who loved her deeply, as well as her children, Susie and Ian, and has been like the father they never had. Leah also shared a close, loving friendship with her brother, Wes Johnson.

Anyone who knew Leah also knew that her greatest passion in life was her children, Ian and Susie. They were her Life, Love and Light, and she poured her heart and soul into raising them into the wonderful young adults they are today. The three of them had a unique bond, they were best friends and truly enjoyed just spending time together, living and sharing the big and small moments of life together. She was so proud of them, and they will forever be Leah's Living Legacy, continuing to bring joy and smiles to the world, just like she did.

Leah was preceded in death by her father, Bubba Johnson, another beautiful soul taken from this world too soon and too young, and her PawPaw, Alton Wood. When Leah went to be with the Lord, she was survived by her two beloved children, Ian and Susie, her mama Dianne Nugent, her brother Wes Ven Johnson and wife Savin, and the love of her life, Marty Cantrell. She also leaves behind hundreds of friends, family members, and friends who are like family.
