ROBERT “BOB” PIATT
January 19, 1930 ˜ July 2, 2022

On Saturday, July 2, 2022, Robert Benjamin Piatt passed away at the age of 92.
Robert “Bob” Piatt was born Jan. 19, 1930, in Ponderay, ID, to Benjamin and Eva (Carnegie) Piatt. He joined the Army Air Corp at the age of 16. On Nov. 5, 1949, he married Lauretta May VanDolah and they were married nearly 73 years. Together they raised four children, Eva Irene, Elizabeth Gaylene, Robert William, and Laura Ann.
Bob was well known in the towboat industry and traveled extensively with his work as a Diesel Engineer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Eastern Star, the Shriners, the Scottish Rite, and the American Legion. Bob had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fly fishing. Other hobbies included building ship models, fly tying and building fly rods. He also loved raising roses. Bob was known for his kind, compassionate, generous nature, and his love for family.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin; his mother, Eva; his brothers, Donald and James; and his sister, Patricia. He is survived by his wife, Lauretta; his four children, Eva, Gaylene, Bob and Laura; his sister, Terry; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several cousins and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022, 12:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Memorial Park and Funeral Home 11801 SE Mount Scott Blvd. Portland, OR 97086. Graveside with Military Honors: Monday, July 25, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family requests those who wish to express sympathy, to consider making a donation to the Portland Shriner’s Hospital for Children or to the Ray Hickey Hospice Home (Vancouver) in his memory.
