Randall Graser Obituary

RANDALL CHARLES GRASER
July 14, 1966 ˜ July 6, 2022

Randall Charles Graser was born in Portland, OR, on July 14, 1966, to Marvin and Sharon Graser. He died July 6, 2022, in Vancouver, 8 days before his 56th birthday.
Randy was a survivor of the 1972 tornado in Vancouver that took the life of his young mother after she had rescued all the children in her care, including Randy, at Sunrise Lanes.
Randy grew up in Vancouver, attending Vancouver Public Schools. He graduated from Fort Vancouver High School in 1985 where he played football and basketball. He lettered in football and choir. Randy played Little League baseball at Alcoa Little League. He enjoyed all sports, college and professional. He was a walking encyclopedia for sport statistics, especially for the NBA and NFL. During high school, he was active in Young Life and a most memorable time in his life was attending Camp Malibu in British Columbia. He delighted in being voted ‘Class Clown’ in the Class of ’85. Randy enjoyed salmon fishing with his brothers. He had many friends and was well-liked by all who knew him. Randy loved animals and took much pleasure in his sweet cat, Milo.
He worked in the produce department of Fred Meyer for 23 years. His most recent employment was 2 years with Walmart in produce. Randy enjoyed his customers, often talking with them about the upcoming sporting events and the statistics of the favored team.
Randy is survived by his mother and stepfather, Judy and Michael Morrison of Vancouver; brothers, Rick Graser (Debbie) of Moses Lake, WA, and Russ Graser (Teri) of Vancouver; sister, Melissa McGlinn (Patrick) of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Tessa Graser of Vancouver, and longtime special friend Lynne Smith-Reynolds of Ridgefield. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Graser in 2003; and brother, Ken Nellis in 2021.
A graveside service is scheduled at Vancouver Memorial Gardens Tuesday, July 12 at 2:00 p.m. for family and friends. Viewing is available from 12:00-2:00 when his body will then be taken to the Garden of the Apostles for the service. A Celebration of Life will be held Aug. 6 for friends and family at the home of his mother and stepfather.

I recall Randy from all the years working at Fred Meyer and enjoyed talking to him. One time his vehicle was broke so I offered to pick him up when it was icy/snowy a few years back. I was sad to hear of his death & haven't seen him around but just found out today. He was a warm guy that smiled easy and is missed. See you soon my friend

I don't remember him but I do remember is his mom rented a house from my folks back then. I remember that his mom got hurt in the Tornado and then later on in the following years I came in contact with his brother which was weird to know him as adult teacher that I worked with back then. May he rest in Peace with his mom and rest of his family now.

I don't have any other way to let the Graser Family & those involved in the graveside remembrance for Randy know that it was the most beautiful & MEANINGFUL remembrance I have ever attended & I'm a very old lady, so that's a lot.

I was Randy´s first grade teacher, we knew he had had an awful experience with losing his mom and being in the tornado. I just decided to make him my "pet". Followed him forever, seeing him regularly at Fred Meyers. Kids shouldn´t die before us.

Randy was my best friend at Ogden Elementary school. We moved after my sixth grade so I missed many years of friendship with him.

I remember he had perfect attendance into the sixth grade. One morning we both got to school early and he gave me that impish smile and said, "My brother got this album, we've got to go listen to it."

So two white, suburban, grade schoolers went back to his house to listen to part of a Richard Pryor Album. We laughed so hard that, despite running back to school, it resulted in his only attendance blemish. We both thought it was worth it.

That was 43 years ago and I still remember his laughter and smile. I missed him when we moved, and I miss him more now that he is gone.

R.I.P. Randy, I'll see you on the other side.

Was a close neighbor of the Grasers starting in 1970. Of course, Randy was a little guy then. However, in his adulthood he saw me one day shopping & came right over to see me. He recognized me & was so-o-o-o friendly & happy to see me. I was also so-o-o-o happy to see him & was shocked he remembered me. Wishing all of you God's comfort & endurance through this difficult time.
