Jessica Prew Obituary

JESSICA RAY PREW
February 21, 1997 ˜ August 2,
2022

Jessica Ray Prew was born on Feb. 21, 1997, to Jeni L. Prew (Hughes) and Thomas C. Prew in Portland, OR. “Jessi” walked this earth for a brief but powerful 25 years, embracing and impacting everyone she met. After a sudden and unexpected tragedy while she was sleeping, Jessi exited this world on Aug. 2, 2022, in Vancouver, WA. Jessi spent her last few days surrounded by some of the greatest love ever witnessed. Rightfully so, for someone who always gave so much of herself.
Jessi’s early life was miraculous. Born nine weeks early, she just couldn’t wait to get into this world and experience all the things her mom and dad had talked to her about. A sensitive but tough little girl, she played competitive sports from a young age. She spent countless hours with her softball teams, thriving, learning, growing and having a good time. Jessi attended Prairie High School and graduated in 2015. There she participated in softball, track and field and volleyball. Jessi was always strong, able and determined. A “strong independent woman” is how she liked to identify herself.
Jessi loved her family and extended family which included her boyfriend and his family, her friends, and her pets. She also loved children. Jessi found her calling in childcare and nannying. It was a known fact that Jessi’s “super power” was working with children. She has been called the “child whisperer” more than once. It was as if her heart could talk to theirs and it was always instant and mutual love and admiration. Jessi was such a special soul; as kind as they come, beautiful, patient, generous, selfless, fun, loving and just good. When it came to others, no matter how she felt, Jessi always wanted the best for everyone else.
The Prew family bond is strong and cohesive. Throughout her life, Jessi spent a lot of time with both of her grandmas shopping, baking, laughing, vacationing and getting spoiled. She made numberless memories during annual vacations, holidays, birthdays and events with her family. Many unforgettable times were had on vacation in Cabo, Mexico, at Cougar, WA, camping and at the annual Prew New Year’s bonfire. Jessi was going to bridge our family’s generations and keep us all in check as we aged. Walking along side us in spirit, her light and love will continue to guide us.
Jessica is survived by her parents, Jeni Prew (Hughes) and Thomas C. Prew; brother, Thomas R. Prew; grandparents, Marilyn Hughes and Mike Robbins, Jerry and Mary Jane Hughes; uncles, Scott Hughes (Mary Hughes) and Tom Hughes; cousins, Holly Newton and Max Chandler; partner, Joe Staley and the whole Staley crew; her beloved dog, Buddy and her longtime kitty, Muffin. As well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and her “kiddos.” Jessica is preceded in death by her grandparents Richard T. Prew (2003) and Celia J. Prew (2019) and her aunts Tami C. Newton (2008) and Debby Hughes (2022).
Always with us and forever in our hearts. Please join us for a full celebration of life service at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Friday, Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Prew home. A viewing will also be held on Thursday, Aug. 11 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

When I heard about this my heart just broke. I don't remember a lot of the girls over the years from softball but I have always remembered Jessie. Always such a sweet girl who had fun and loving parents. My heart is with you.
