John Gaudio Obituary

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, John C. Gaudio, M.D., after a lengthy illness.

He was a graduate of King's College and Hahnemann University. Upon graduation from medical school, he completed an internship at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem and worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in Reading. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army for two years. After the service, he decided to pursue the specialty of pediatrics, where he completed his residencies at the University of Pennsylvania and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Dr. Gaudio experienced a 50-year career as a pediatrician at pediatric associates of Kingston, LLC. He was extremely dedicated to his patients and thoroughly cherished caring for and knowing them.

Jack will be greatly missed by his wife, Jane, of 57 blessed years together; daughter, Melissa; sister-in-law, Janet Gaudio; and niece, Lisa Gaudio Schwedock (Jeff).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Carmen; brother Robert; and a niece and nephew.

He had been dedicated to his faith serving for many years as a Eucharistic minister at St. Ignatius Church. In addition, he had a special mission of giving to many charitable organizations.

Jack was a talented pianist, had accompanied the glee club while he attended King's College, but primarily played the piano for enjoyment throughout his life. We will greatly miss his music, kindness, gentleness, eternal optimism, generosity, joy, positivity, patience, wisdom, creative talent and superb, witty sense of humor.

We want to thank many people along the way for their support and kindness including Dr. Richard Blum, Dr. Walter DelGaudio, Dr. David Andolino, Dr. David Greenwald and his supportive team at Medical Oncology Associates. We also want to thank Mary Erwine and her wonderful aides for their great care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please consider a charitable donation to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Foundation, Dinners for Kids Organization or Make-A-Wish.

Friends and family may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Patrick J. McLaughlin will be the celebrant. Interment will be private following the Mass.

I spent 4-5 years at another pediatric practice in the Valley when I was much younger and knew him only in passing. Fast forward 20 years and I return to do a temp job at PAK, where he was semi-retired and still did weekly shifts. He sat next to me for several months and talked about the changes and state of medical practice, about jazz, about families, anything really. Hope he is at peace.

We were so sorry to learn of Dr. Gaudio's passing. Our family loved him at Pediatric Associates because of his kindness and obvious caring for our two sons. I was always delighted when we got an appointment with him. He seemed to have a special rapport with our youngest, also a pianist, but I never knew of the good Dr.'s interest and talent, but that might explain his obvious attentiveness and extraordinary devotion to that son in particular. But even prior to that, when on call, he actually made a "house call" at midnight when circumstances precluded our visit to the Dr.'s office with a baby screaming with ear pain. I'll be forever grateful to him for that kind and caring gesture. He was such a lovely, good man and we are so grateful that he was part of lives. We want to convey our sincerest sympathy to his family and friends on your sad loss. May your fond memories sustain you.

My deepest condolences. Dr. Gaudio was my pediatrician (I’m 52!) as a kid and then I took my kids to him. Simply the best! All my kids loved him. He was so kind and took care of my oldest son who had significant special needs even though he didn’t take his insurance. He always checked in on him even after he went into St. Joe’s and I made sure they kept him in the loop. Such a wonderful human being and will be greatly missed!

Dr. Gaudio was my pediatrician until I went to college basically. I could not have had a kinder, wiser, caring doctor who truly was invested in his patient so much beyond the exam room. I will remember him for his patience, genuine concern and care and the kindness and empathy he always showed. He laid the foundation of my trust in doctors and the medical community that I depend on in many ways to this day. I am thankful he provided the care that was so critical to my development and I know I am not alone in the positive ripple effect that had on his many patients. My prayers for peace and comfort are with him and his family during this grief filled time. God Bless

Dr Gaudio was my pediatrician growing up until I went to college basically and I could not have had a better, kinder, loving, caring man as my caregiver. He was patient, wise and truly knew his patients and showed a compassion that becomes harder and harder to find in care providers today from my experience. I will remember him fondly as the main reason I trust my doctors and don’t ever mind going to the doctor’s office. He laid a foundation of trust in medicine and medical community that I am thankful I have to this day and I have no doubt I am not alone in the ripple effect of that which he created. My prayers are with him for peace and with his family for comfort and love through the grieving process. God Bless

Dr. Gaudio was my son's pediatrician & was there for his birth. My son is autistic & didn't like to be touched by medical professionals yet somehow Dr. Gaudio made him feel comfortable and my son welcomed his hugs. Thank you doctor for being so good to my son. Rest in peace and comfort and blessings to your family.

Melissa and Family,
I am so sorry for the loss of such a great man who touched so many lives. l was a patient of Dr. Kluger until his passing. I was five at the time. Another doctor took his patients and when he walked in the exam room my mother recalls how I started screaming "I want my Dr. Kluger". I was adamant that I would not let him near me ever. When your Dad came, my mom said I just loved him. So, he must have been someone very special to be able to gain the trust and love of a little girl. When I was pregnant in 1999 and he was still practicing, I was worried he would retire soon and I did not want my child to get accustomed to one doctor and then have to change as I went through, so we picked Dr. Harris. However, if we had an issue and Dr. Harris was not in my next question was is Dr. Gaudio available? My two children could have been his patients also. I really cannot believe the amount of years he was a pediatrician. The area has lost a great doctor and a wonderful man. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

God be with you!

Dr. Gaudio leaves behind a great legacy: the many children he cared for in his stellar career, mine being 2 of those many. His kindness and rapport with my children will always be remembered. Even after they were well into adulthood he would still ask about them when our paths crossed at St. Ignatius Church! Mrs. Gaudio and Melissa, you were truly blessed to have shared his life. I pray that you will have strength and courage to carry on knowing your husband and dad will not be forgotten.

It is with deep sadness I feel today learning about the passing of a great man. I knew Dr. Gaudio for 35 years. I worked with him at WBGH and Nesbitt hospitals. Always loved when he popped in on the 3-11 PM shift... He had a great, funny sense of humor and always made me smile. He'd walk in the nursery door and I would say " it's Jack!!!" I was so happy when I had children, he was the one we wanted to take care our sons. His soothing voice calmed their fears and mine too! I felt as though he loved all his patients as family. My sincere condolences to his wife and daughter. He loved talking about you! He will always be remembered as a old soul and one of the kindness gentleman I had the privilege to work besides! He will always be in my heart!

Dr. Gaudio was such a caring doctor and our sons were his patients in the late 70s thru the 90s. We have been blessed and are so thankful for the input he had in their early years. We took our children, ten years apart, to Dr. Gaudio for over 25 years. They loved him. He always remembered the details of their life on each visit: the school, their interests, and so on. He took his time with each visit. He amazed me. Dr. Gaudio's genuine caring and concern for each child, along with his great ability to diagnose and treat, was a rare combination.
Our children grew past the age of visits with him, yet I've often wondered how he was doing. My sympathy to Mrs. Gaudio, their daughter and other family and those who loved him.
