Carol Howard Rush entered into the full presence of the Lord when she passed from this earth on July 13, 2022. She was just a few weeks away from her 93rd birthday. She was surrounded by her family including her husband, Jesse Rush; her son, David Rush; and daughters, Cyndy Rush Turner and Pam Rush Vetor.
Carol met her husband, Jesse from Rome, Georgia, on a blind date and they celebrated 72 years of marriage on July 1, 2022.
Carol was born on August 17, 1929 to a family of 5 sisters and 2 brothers and grew up in Montpelier, Indiana, graduating from Montpelier High School.
She graduated from the Indianapolis General Hospital School of Nursing in 1950 with a degree in Nursing and served as a Registered Nurse for her career. Carol was always appreciative of Dr. Michael Burns from Montpelier, who loaned her the money to go to nursing school.
Her nursing work experience included Marion General Hospital, Indiana Wesleyan University, Director of Nursing at Twin City Nursing Home, Doctors office of Aldefer, Richardson, Jarrett & Smith, Davis Clinic, Ball Hospital, Blackford County Hospital, Virginia Beach Hospital and Henry County Hospital.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her son, David (Gas City); and daughters, Cyndy (Eric) Turner (Cicero) and Pam (Mike) Vetor (Gas City). Additional survivors include her 10 grandchildren Dimitre Darroca, Thornton Wehr, Natalie Rush, Rachel Rush (Cody Stewart), Zeke (Milissa)Turner, Jessaca (Russ) Stults, Kylee (Adam) McMurray, Courtney (Jay D) Milbank, Nick (Stacie) Vetor and Chanelle (Troy) Losure.
She had 34 great grandchildren including Elijah, Roman, CharleyAnn, Caleb, Emmanuel, Jubilee, Brooklyn, Edmond, Juliette, Zion and baby Turner due in October; Sanders, Caroline and Cooper Stults; Kolton, Chase and Knox McMurray; Jemma, Jameson and Jensen Milbank; Ryan, Norah, Allie, and Olivia Vetor; Ella, Mason and LillyAnna Losure; Tiberius Wehr; Leona and Lilith Haskins, Shawn and Thomas Rush; Gabriel Graves and Skyler Stewart.
Carol is also survived by her younger sister, Treva Tracey (Fort Wayne) and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Henheiser Howard; her father, Norman Howard, Sr.; siblings, Esther Heron Blankenbecker, Hugh Heron, Norman Howard, Jr., Elizabeth McDonald, Ellen Caylor, Beulah Litmer; as well as her daughter-in-law, Angela Rush.
Carol enjoyed spending time with her husband and family throughout her life. They enjoyed riding their golf cart down to the local Concerts at the Park in Gas City and her very last public event was just 8 days before her death at one of the Tuesday night concerts. Carol and Jesse also enjoyed attending various events and sports activities of their many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Just three weeks ago, Carol and Jesse attended the Herron Howard family reunion at the former Clearwater Park with many of Carol's family in attendance.
For the past eight years, Carol and Jesse spent winters on Hutchinson Island, Jensen Beach, Florida and made many friends from around the country and Canada.
Carol defined being a giver and she maintained a positive upbeat attitude throughout her life, even as her health failed the last few months of her life. Her husband, served as her faithful caregiver, rarely leaving her side during the last several months, so they could be together at home. As a couple, they modeled a Christian and faithful marriage.
Carol was a classy and beautiful Christian lady who knew Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior. She was a wonderful wife, outstanding and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Carol and Jesse attended Hanfield United Methodist Church in Marion for many years; and, most recently, Eastview Wesleyan Church in Gas City.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 17 from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, 400 E. Main St., Gas City as well as 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 18, 2022 at 11:00 am at Eastview Wesleyan Church 414 N. 10th St., Gas City with Pastor Mark Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park, Marion, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Eastview Wesleyan Church.
